GAYLOR, Mr. James Alvin, Sr. - Age 73, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, January 16, 2009 at Damascus Holy Life Church, 637 E. Russell St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Ira G. Edwards, Sr., officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Gaylor will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Contributions may be directed to Mr. James Gaylor Jr., 8461 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI, 48473. Mr. James Alvin Gaylor, Sr. peacefully took flight to our heavenly father on January 8, 2009. Mr. James Gaylor, Sr. was born on May 29, 1935 in Dyersburg, TN the son of Juanita (Daddy Will) and Ruby Gaylor. Mr. James Gaylor, Sr. served in the United States Army he was active in Germany, Russia and the Korean Conflict. He received an Honorable Discharge with a National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), and a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Gaylor relocated to Detroit, MI in 1965 to work as an employee for Ford Motor Corp. He then became a resident of Flint in 1972. Mr. James Gaylor, Sr. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His daily routine included walking to the store and sitting with his friends. He really enjoyed reading his Bible and talking with his family and friends. Mr. James Gaylor, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories to carry on his legacy, 3 daughters, Barbara Ann Gaylor, Sandra Faye (Herman) Wright and April (Wayne) Bliss; son, James Alvin (CaSundra) Gaylor, Jr., all of Flint; sister, Marie Gaylor of Chicago, IL; 2 brothers, Eddie Gaylor of Detroit, and Carl Gaylor of Dyersburg, TN; special cousin, Billy and Kate Fowlkes of Flint; 2 sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae (Sifus) Thompson of Flint and Mae West Gaylor of Southfield; brother-in-law, Charles Clayton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great nieces, great nephews and great grandchildren; best friends, Mr. Johnny Collins and Mr. James Murphy and a host of friends including everyone he knew and loved that was special to him. Mr. James Gaylor, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Ferguson) Gaylor; his daughters, Ruby and Linda Marie Gaylor; parents, Juanita (Daddy Will) and Ruby Gaylor; brothers, Charles Sr. and Nelson (Doris) Gaylor; aunts, Alice, Jedi and Nancy Merchant; uncle, Jack (Helen) Merchant; nephews, James, Sunny and Terry Merchant, Daryll and Dwayne Gaylor; grandsons, Major and Willie Gaylor; great-granddaughters, Olivia Howard and Jazell Gaylor; mother and father-in-law, Mr. Robert Ferguson and Mrs. Elenora McClemore; sister-in-law, Carolyn Ferguson and brother-in-law, John Ferguson. The family would like to express a special thanks to Hurley Medical Center, Heartland Hospice, Eddie Gaylor, Tina Howard, Daryl and Hellena Rhodes, Ladonna Jordan, Slidell Residents and Pastor Ira G.
