BUCKNER, Mr. James Orval. - Age 98, passed away Friday, July 26, 2024 at his residence. Family and Friends will gather in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Flint, Michigan at 1:00PM Friday, August 2, 2024 with Military Honors beginning at 2:00PM. Mr. James Orval Buckner was born May 8, 1926, in Stockton, Kansas, the son of Boyce Sr. and Hazel (Green) Buckner. James graduated from Webster High School in Webster, KS. He bravely served as a PTR 3C in the United States Navy beginning in the 1940’s and was Honorably Discharged July 1, 1946. James was employed by Buick Motor Company, a division of General Motors Corporation and was a businessman, owning an establishment that helped many communities in Flint, Michigan. James met and married Othella Holley and from this union 3 children were born, Phyllis, Eloise and Bryan. He carried a passion for creativity in drawing and enjoyed performing arts of all sorts. In addition to his artistic nature, James immersed himself in newfound knowledge at every turn of life. When he was not spending time with his family, traveling, cooking or beating someone in Chinese Checkers, he shared his generous heart with everyone around him, especially for those in need. Known for his kind and patient spirit, James’ legacy will live on forever. He confessed Christ and began to worship Him in spirit and in truth. On Friday morning, July 26, 2024, James harkened to the Masters Call. He will be dearly missed and forever etched in the hearts of his family and friends. Mr. James Orval Buckner leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Phyllis Buckner Scott of Lansing, MI and Eloise “Toni” Jarrett of Flint, MI; son, Bryan Buckner of Union City, GA; 5 grandchildren, Eric (Paula) Buckner of Columbus, OH, Alexis Scott of Corpus Christi, TX, Nyla Burnette of Atlanta, GA, Ebone Charles of Hurst, TX and Sumika Jarrett-Riddle of Lawrenceville, GA; 2 great-grandchildren, Marlin (Alisha) Riddle II of Feucht, Germany and Micah Riddle of Lawrenceville, GA; great-great-grandson, Marlin “Tre” Riddle III; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Buckner was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce Sr. and Hazel Buckner; sister, Alberta Mitchell; brother, Boyce Buckner Jr.; and son-in-law, Kelvin N. Scott. The family would like to express special thanks to everyone that extended their love, sympathy, and support to them as we accept the divine will of God concerning their loved one.
