AVERY, Re. James Clozell – Age 76, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 at Kith Haven Nursing Home. Family hour 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 E. Kennelworth Ave., with funeral services commencing at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Rev. Avery will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon – 8:00 p.m. Monday. Rev. James Clozell Avery was born August 13, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of James and Leola Avery. Rev. Avery was a resident of Flint. He was member Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a former Associate Minister. Rev. Avery was Founder & Pastor of Christ The Lamb Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Wilberforce University and United Theological Seminary Bible College and was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and the Civil Rights Commission. James retired from Dephi, a division of General Motors and was a member of UAW Local 651. He also was a retiree of the United States Postal Office. Rev. Avery was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army March of 1964. Rev. James Clozell Avery leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mary M. Avery of Flint; 2 daughters, Carol Michele Avery of Flint, Anita Prather of Memphis, TN; son, Kevin Mark (Angela R.) Avery; grandchildren, Kevin M. (Stephanie) Avery, Jr. and Brandon K. White, all of Grand Blanc, MI and Michele Prather of Memphis, TN; great-grandchildren, Stevin Armond Jamar Avery of Grand Blanc, MI, Javon of Memphis, TN, Kevin M. Avery Jr. and Stephanie LaShon Avery, both of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 nieces, Sharon, Debora and Crystal; 3 nephews, Harold Bernard, Derrick and Jonathan; 2 uncles, Theodore Roosevelt Johnson of Memphis, TN and Clarence Avery of Chicago, IL; 8 cousins, Errol, Theodore Jr., Naaman, Ronald, Maurice, Daryl, Victoria and Deneen; mother & Father-in-law, W. Wesley and Mildred L. Harewood of Greenfield, OH; 4 sisters, Helen H. Johnson of Flint, Barbara J. Cole of Greenfield, OH, Vivian and Louise Avery, both of Memphis, TN; 2 brothers-in-law, William L. Harewood of Flint and Phillip H. Harewood of Greenfield, OH; a host of other relatives and friends. Rev. Avery was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie A. Avery; parents; grandparents, Rev. J.R. Thomas and Frank and Eleeze Avery; 2 brothers, Pernell H. Avery and Carnel H. Avery; aunt, Annie Mae Johnson and brother-in-law, John W. Harewood.
