Jake Phillips

PHILLIPS, Mr. Jake - Age 71, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Brian's House in Davison, MI. Family hour 10AM Thursday, January 15, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM, Eld. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Thursday. Mr. Phillips will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed Thursday during family hour only. Mr. Jake Phillips was born May 12, 1937 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, the son of Trudy and Thomas Phillips. Jake was a resident of Flint for 25 years. He accepted Christ at an early age. Jake was a graduate of Skills Trade as a Pipe and Steam Fitter in Seattle, Washington, retiring after 25 years. Jobs included: Alaska Pipeline and the Seattle Superdome. After moving to Flint he worked at Chevrolet Truck and Bus as a Skills Trades Pipe Fitter until his time of death. Jake was a member of UAW Local 598 and Local 32 in Seattle, Washington. He was a big sports fan who enjoyed spending time with family and watching movies. Jake mentioned several times to anyone who knew him Alma was not only his wife, but his best friend. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Alma Dent-Phillips of Burton, MI; son, Dante Arceneaux of Flint; 4 stepchildren, Shontelle Dent of Grand Blanc, MI, Dimicho Albert, Sandra Briscoe and Andre Taylor, all of Seattle, WA; host of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Verna (Thomas) L. Holland of El Paso, TX; mother-in-law, Queen E. Shipp of Flint; 7 sisters-in-law including special sister-in-law, Era (Aurelious) Alston of Flint; 9 brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and friends including co-workers from General Motors Truck and Bus Cab Shop Line 900 and special cousin, Kenneth Dent. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Trudy and Thomas Phillips; brothers, Herman, John and Charles Phillips; sister, Vera Phillips; nephews, James Thomas, George, Jesse and Charles Frazier; uncle, Jake Ansley; and stepson, Laron Sanford.
