Iyuania Friend

FRIEND, Ms. Iyuania - Age 36, the sunset of her earthly life was Friday, June 18, 2010. Family hour 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Min. Harry Prince officiating, Senior Pastor Urundi Knox, Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Friday. Ms. Friend will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. The sunrise of Iyuania Lee Friend’s life was December 20, 1974 to Jerome D. and Ava M. Friend of Flint, Michigan. Iyuania graduated with Honors from Flint Central High School in 1993, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Michigan State University in 1998. She was employed with AT&T Detroit until 2006 due to illness. Iyuania accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Ebenezer Ministries in Burton, MI. She enjoyed traveling, reading, inspirational scriptures and helping others. Most of all she adored her daughter. Throughout her four year illness, she always wore a smile on her face and could make others laugh. Iyuania had a heart of gold. The most memorable moment in her life was January 14, 2000 at 3:06 a.m., when Naijha Shanta Friend was born. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Naijha S. Friend; parents, Jerome D. Friend and Ava M. (Thomas E.) Coffey, all of Flint; grandparents, Jimmie L. (Annie M.) Friend of Mt. Morris, MI; two sisters, Angela M. Friend of Grand Ledge, MI and Dr. Fawn T. (Dr. Victor) Ukpolo of New Orleans, LA; one brother, Shawn E. (Lanel) Coffey of Idlewild, MI; four aunts, Arleatha Logan of Mt. Morris, MI, Brenda A. (Us Via) Soles III, Carolin K. (Edward) Brown, all of Flint, Dixie L. Friend-Brown of Detroit, MI; five uncles, Roy M. Richardson of Warrenton, NC, Jimmie L. Friend, Jr. of Detroit, MI and Joe O. Friend of Flint; special friends, Michael Fleming, Heidi Mathis, Naketa (Gary) Brown, Shunta Rhodes, Jason TeGenet, Mother Linda Ridgeway, Velma Williams, Paula (Jerome) Threlkeld, Aunt Chuckie (Raymond) Briscoe, Anita Banks, Uncle Butch (Rutha) Hill; numerous cousins; other relatives and friends. Iyuania was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leroy (Mary J.) Richardson, Clifford (Edith) Coffey; and aunt, Delphine Betts. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Henry Ford Medical Centers in Wyandotte and Detroit, MI, Genesys and Hurley Cancer Institute, Hurley Medical Center especially the staff on 9 East; Avalon Hospice and Michigan Physical Therapy Associates.
