Mrs. Irma Jean Wooten

WOOTEN, Mrs. Irma - Age 79, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Serene Gardens of Grand Blanc. Irma Jean Wooten, known to many as Jean, was born in Oxford, Mississippi on June 10, 1945, and moved to Flint, Michigan at the age of 10. She graduated from Flint Central High School. Jean worked for AC Delphi for 31 years. Co-workers and friends would always remark on her loving spirit, joyous heart, and desire to help those in need. After retirement, she spent her time volunteering at Hurley Hospital for over 20 years consoling the families of patients during surgeries. The many pots of coffee she made, the games she played, and the words she shared made a difference in the lives of many during trying times.In her spare time, you would find Jean reading through cookbooks looking for the recipe that would be her next biggest hit. Although as many will recall, it was almost impossible to top her Hummingbird Cake and Chess Cake Bars. In addition to cooking Jean loved to play Scrabble, to watch Jeopardy (no one dared to disturb her weekdays at 7 pm), to watch old movies and Columbo reruns, to attend many stage plays, and loved to shop, especially for shoes. Jean leaves behind her two daughters Ja-Neen Wooten of Flint, MI and Jada Wooten of Westland, MI; sister Phyllis (Duane) Summerville of Mt. Morris, MI; two brothers Jesse Thompson of Chicago, IL and Alfred (Annie) Thompson of Flint, MI; aunt Doris Jean Reno; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Jesse M. Thompson Sr and Irma L Thompson; two sisters Yvonne Frisby and Vivian Robinson; brother Willie Thompson; her dear mother-in-law Marie Wooten; sisters-in-law Pearlene Thompson, Eula Walker, Ella Thompson, and Ella Lousie Jackson; and her beloved grandparents. The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Holiday Genesee Gardens for their friendship and for allowing her to be part of their family. Thank you to the staff at Hurley Hospital and Regency of Grand Blanc for excellent care. Thank you to the friendly staff of Serene Gardens for making her feel welcome, loved, and cared for in her final days. Thank you to Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home for their special care and cremation services. To honor the wishes of the deceased, no services will be held.
