SMITH, Mrs. Irene - Age 74, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at her residence. Family hour 11:30 AM Friday, August 15, 2025 at Greater Emmanuel Temple Church, 1117 E. Genesee Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM. Pastor Melvin Davis, officiating. Interment, Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 11:30 AM Friday, August 15, 2025. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 12:00PM-6:00PM, with family present from 4:00PM-6:00PM to receive friends. Mrs. Irene Smith was born November 18, 1950, in Dubach, Louisiana, the daughter of Dan and Willie Bea Ford. Irene was a resident of Flint, Michigan for over 40 years. She was a devoted member of Greater Emmanuel Temple for over 30 years. Irene attended school until 10th grade. She was employed at GCCAA and Citizen’s Bank. Irene enjoyed bowling and softball. She always made everyone, and anyone feel like family. Irene had a unique angelic spirit. Her children and grandchildren were her main focus, after Jesus Christ. Mrs. Irene Smith leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Michelle Lynette Smith of Flint; 2 sons, James (Chrystal) Standard Smith Jr. of Battle Creek, MI and Fredrick (Chanetta) Neil Smith of Flint; god-children, Alfred (Gail Jean) Thomas, Donald James Baylor, Antonio Payne, Evelyn Woods, Sandy Jones and Jaleel (Adrianna) Majeed; grandchildren, Jerry & Ambor Ormond, Yohannah Powell, James Smith, Janaya Smith, Tiara Smith, Noah Smith, La’Quisha Smith, all of Flint, Kiosha Smith of Memphis, TN, Malik Smith of North Carolina, Dai’Quan Barbee of West Virginia, Ayrianna Smith of Denver, CO, Fredrick Smith Jr., Jasmine Miller, both of Detroit, MI, Jamesha Smith, Imir Smith, Kamarianna Wingfield and Sincere Wingfield, all of Battle Creek, MI; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Katherine McLilly and Lucille Edwards; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends Martha Day, Shelia and Bonnie. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Willie Bea Ford; grandparents, Will and Annie Stewart; sisters, Annie Ruth Tolbert, Claudie Bea (Ford) Harris, Clara Dunn, Mary Dawson and Dorothy Drake; brother, JP (Shirley) Ford.
