SMITH, Mrs. Irene - Age 77, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009 at her residence. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, November 16, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM., Rev. Jacob Hawkins officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Monday. Interment Gulf Port, MS. Mrs. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mrs. Irene Estelle Smith was born July 9, 1932 in Montrose, Mississippi, the daughter of Talton and Maude Lou Moore. Irene was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Nurses’ Guild. She was a member of Sunday School Class #8 and attended Wednesday morning prayer and bible study when she was able. Mrs. Smith also attended Hasselbring Senior Center. She loved to shop, knit, cook and care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Irene Estelle Smith leaves to cherish her memory: 5 daughters and 4 sons, Annie Randolph of Flint, Benny Ray (Roberta) Evans of Atoka, TN, Thomas Evans, James (America) Evans, Lance (Patsy) Evans, all of, Gulfport, MS, Karen Evans, Gwendolyn Newsome, Betty Newsome, Deena (Kawanna) Evans, all of Ft. Worth, TX; 30 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; 6 sisters, Mamie Bender, Lemaud Johnson, both of Chicago, IL, Betty Hope, Rosie Lett, Cinderella Potts, all of Gulfport, MS, Juanita Patterson of Michigan; brother, Coetee (Onee) Moore of Tennessee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins;2 daughters-in-law, Gwen Evans of Ft. Worth, TX and Margie Evans of Gulfport, MS; 2 sisters-in-law, Pearlie Moore of California and Myrtie Smiley Moore of Ilinois; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, Pearlie Felton, Sudie Cureton, Lucy Stinson, Mary Coleman, A.M. Prayer and Bible Study Group, Sunday School Class #8, Lenox Doyle, Nurses’ Guild, Dr. W. G. Terry and New Zion Church family. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by: son, Albert Evans; parents, Talton Moore, Maude Moore; grandson, Qualan Evans; great-granddaughters, Kimoni Evan and Dee Dee Randolph; sisters, Grady Ruth, Lucille, Gennie, Nannie Ruth, Classie and Susie; brothers, Abraham, William, Santee, Jimmy, Jessie and Clark. The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers, Shaw Gill, Nolan, Joseph, David Randolph and Jamica Gill.
