Mrs. Irene Majied

MAJIED, Mrs. Irene - Age 87, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Crestmont Nursing Home. Service will be Monday, October 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Iman Rasool Rahman, officiating. Interment, Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, 9506 N. Dort Highway. There will be no public viewing. Mrs. Irene Chinyere Majied (Irene McClendon) was born November 8, 1928 in Wesson, Arkansas to Will and Mittie Halton, the third of thirteen children. When Irene was four years old, the family moved to Hensley, Arkansas. Irene Halton married Abdul-Rahim Majied (Charley James McClendon, Sr.) on June 22, 1946. This union was blessed with ten children: Dorene D. McClendon-Salaam of Riverview, FL.; Mary E. Bailey of Flint, MI.; Charley J. (Ella) McClendon Jr. of Flint, MI.; Teresa A. McClendon-Marks of Grand Rapids, MI.; Roger R. (Darlene) McClendon of Flint, MI.; Khalilah S. (Enyichukwu) Obimba of Ypsilanti, MI.; Dawud A. (Lena) Majied of Flint, MI.; Gregory L. Majied of Indianapolis, IN.; Maurice G. Majied of Huntsville, AL.; and Eric A. Majied of Dallas, TX. They also raised three beloved grandsons: Rahaman L. McClendon, Edrice A.D. & Rashad S. Weatherspoon, all of Flint, MI. Mother/Grandmother’s joy was her family and she loved learning. She attended first through eighth grade in a one-room school house and completed her education by earning her high school diploma through Mott Adult High graduating from Northwestern High on June 3, 1983. It was a life-long desire of hers to be a teacher, and once her eldest daughter, Dorene, opened and ran a school she contributed to the education of children at Flint Islamic School and Day Care. While Brother Abdul-Rahim (Grandfather) did maintenance, Mother ran the day care and volunteered from 1982 until her retirement in 1999. Mrs. Irene C. Majied (Grandmother) lived her love of God and faith through caring for her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: 10 children; 40 grandchildren; more than 70 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Rachel Jordan, Ella Mae Richardson, Omae Mitchell, Judy Halton; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Majied (Grandmother) was preceded in death by her husband, Abdul-Rahim Majied; parents Will and Mittie Halton and siblings Gracie Beasley, Mary Mateen, Stanley Halton, Lavada Price, Emile Halton, Sam A. Halton, Helen Mack, Evelyna Rawlins, and Delilah Bailey. Special thanks to Khalilah L. Majied, daughter-in-law who loved and helped care for Mother over the years. Also, thanks to all the descendants of our beloved Uncle Roscoe and Aunt Lena Mae Mitchell and cousin, Idell Bankston.
