Inez Rogers

ROGERS, Mother Inez “Nanny Pooh” - Age 91, made her transition to heaven Monday, February 21, 2011 at Genesys Health Park Grand Blanc, MI with her loving family by her side. Family hour 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 p.m. Pastor George D. Wilkinson officiating. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Mother Rogers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday. After which she will be taken to: William, Herring and Hampton Funeral Home 221 S. Jones Ave. Louisville, Mississippi 39339 (662) 773-3162. Final Services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Boyd Chapel United Methodist Church, Sturgis Rd. Sturgis, MS. Interment Boyd Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sturgis, MS. Inez was born July 26, 1919 to Lula and Charlie Lathan in Sturgis, Mississippi. She united with Boyd Chapel United Methodist Church in Sturgis at an early age. Inez was united in Holy Matrimony to Dwight L. Rogers, Sr. in 1936. To this union, eleven children were born, one of whom preceded her in death at an early age. Inez retired from Spartus Corporation in Louisville, MS, however, her most important position held in life was a wife and mother. Inez moved to Michigan as she transitioned into her sunset years and worshipped with her children at Word of Life Christian Church and Greater Galilee Baptist Church. Inez's hobbies included gardening, quilting, cooking and traveling. Her greatest joy was her children, whom she truly loved and she reminded them of that love daily. Inez also exemplified her love for and strong faith in God. She asked God that the last days of her life be her very best days and she stated that God had honored her request. Inez leaves eleven children to cherish her precious memory and to continue her legacy: Billye (Charlie) Bulluck of Grand Blanc, MI, Leonard (Rosie) Rogers of Hoagland, IN, Breland (Linda) Rogers of Rochester Hills, MI, Diane (Frank) Gladney of Weir, MS, Dwight (Lisa) Rogers of Swartz Creek, MI, Janis Rogers of Auburn Hills, MI, Vivian Rogers Pickard of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Gloria (Glen) Byers of Fenton, MI, Linda (James) Avent of Memphis, TN, Rita (Loston) Rowe of Newark, DE and Barbara (Benny) Knox of Kosciusko, MS; one sister, Charlene Lathan; two brothers, Paul (Helena) Lathan and Earl Lathan, all of Chicago, IL; loving granddaughters, Kristin, Dwinette, Taniecea, Stephanie, Anjohnette, Allison, Carla and Joy; loving grandsons, Rodney, Braque, Lance, Clayton, Henry, Dillon, Jason, Billy Wayne and Key; a host of nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly; special friends, Janie Rogers, Armetta Haynes, Mattie Davis, and William Pickard. Mother Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight L. Rogers, Sr.; sisters, Willie Mae Lampkin and Tessie Sherman; and brothers, William Lathan, Claude Lathan and Thomas James Lathan. The family would like to thank the staff of Genesys Convalescent Center and Genesys Heath Park, with special thanks to Dr. Larry Braver, Sherion McFadden and Mary Singleton. The family also extends special gratitude to Pastor George D. Wilkinson and the Word of Life Christian Church family.
