Mr. Howard Wilson

WILSON, Mr. Howard, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center. Family Hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 31, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Patrick Sanders II, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery. G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Wilson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 pm Friday. Howard Wilson was the youngest of 11 children born to Lonzie and Cassie Wilson on September 16, 1945, in Harperville, Mississippi. He attended Long Pilgrim grade school and at the age of 12 moved to Flint, Michigan to live with his sister Bessie and brother-in-law Lonzie Patrick. In this household he learned some of life’s most important lessons: family values, independence and being true to thyself and others. Howard continued his education at Whittier Jr. High where he played baseball and basketball. He received his diploma from Central High School in Flint, Michigan and upon graduation he was hired at General Motors V8 Engine Plant. In 1966, Howard was married for twelve years and born to that union was one child. May 1967, Howard was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. He completed his basic training in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and was then deployed to Augsburg, West Germany for a year. There he was assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor as a Sergeant / Special 5th Class Tank Commander. He received a National Defense Service Medal and certification as an Expert Rifleman/Sharpshooter. Howard completed his stay with the Army living in family housing in Ft. Riley Kansas. After 2 years of service, he received an honorable discharge and returned home to resume work for General Motors. Howard was a practical, no-nonsense kind of fellow that was respected by all that knew him. He enjoyed helping others and his most adoring attributes were his sense of humor, honesty and dependability. Oh, and if you didn’t know, his time meant everything to him so don’t plan on being late. He was an hour early for everything! You would often find him glued to the television set watching the MSNBC channel keeping abreast of politics and world events. In July 2006, after 41.5 years of service, Howard retired out of General Motors Flint Engine South Plant as a Machine Technician. He was a vintage collector of cars and records and found comfort in traveling. Howard was computer literate and had a newfound love for videography. He also had a gun collection and took occasional trips to the shooting range. As the Patriarch of family gatherings, he will be sadly missed but his legacy lives on. Mr. Howard Wilson leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Holly Wilson of Flint; son, Therron (Koya) Wilson of Flushing, MI; he was a surrogate father to many including Takyra Perkins of Swartz Creek, MI and niece, Mona (Rodney) Patterson of Flushing, MI; grandchildren, Krystal Wilson, Joshua Jackson, Ciahnna Avant, Nicholas Howard Jackson, Therron Wilson Jr., Cristadia Williams, Darwin Smith II, Jojuan Graham and Iman Graham; great-grandchildren, Tyler Wilson-Mitts, Dylan Hendrix, Karsyn Cain, Deondray Cain III and Emerie Graham; god-daughter, Nicole Keahey of Columbus, MD; sister-in-law, Lucille Wilson of Chicago, IL; brother-in-law, Henry Williams Sr. of Milwaukee, WI; a host of other relatives and friends including companion, Ivory Clerkley. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his father, Lonzie Wilson; mother, Cassie (Tanner) Wilson; 4 brothers, C.W,, J.C. Willie and Lonzie Wilson Jr.; 6 sisters, Flossie Nicks, Ida Lee Wilson, Bessie Patrick, Iesther Williams, Climerteen Young and Roma Jean Wilson.
