Mr. Horace H. Niles Sr.

NILES, SR., Mr. Horace H. - Age 84, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Fenton Health Care. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1610 W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:30 a.m. Pastor James Kennedy officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Niles will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Friday with family present from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Horace Hopson Niles, Sr. was born February 26, 1929 in Somerville, Tennessee, the son of the late Eddie Lee and Annie Mae Niles. He was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for over 32 year under the leadership of Dr. James E. Kennedy. Horace loved praising the Lord with all he had to glorify him. He served as a Greeter and a member of the Male Chorus. Horace retired from A.C. Spark Plug, a division of General Motors. He loved to fish and was an avid Detroit Tiger baseball and Detroit Lions football fan. Horace was friendly and loved to talk to people. He never met a stranger if you ever met him; you’d never forget his distinct “Jamaican” accent. Mr. Horace H. Niles, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: 4 children, Horace Niles, Jr., of Milwaukee, WI, Rinnie Harris of Memphis, TN, Fernando Marlon Niles of Milwaukee, WI and Adrienne Smith of Flint; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Glenda (Eddie Lee) Hall of Memphis, TN; special cousins, Doris Jean Isabell of Memphis, TN and Nellie Niles-Edwards of Martin, TN; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. Johnny C. Walker and family, Sr., Mr. Leslie Waller, Jr. and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Younger, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Holcomb. Mr. Niles was preceded in death by his daughters, Ms. Brenda Boyd and Ms. Charmaine Niles; parents, Eddie Lee and Annie Mae Niles; sister, Marie Sims; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and his nephew, Mr. Taurus Vester.
