WINFREY, Mr. Homer - Age 57, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.Family hour 10AM Friday, July 22, 2005 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Friday. Mr. Winfrey will lie in state from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 3-8PM Thursday. Mr. Homer H. Winfrey was born on April 14, 1948 in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Mr. John H. and Mrs. Lizzie M. Winfrey. Homer confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church. Homer was a "people person," who met no stranger and loved his family and friends. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was employed as a tax accountant. Homer was a graduate of Baker College, receiving two Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. He loved to golf as much as he loved academics. Homer was pursuing his Master's Degree prior to his untimely death. Mr. Homer H. Winfrey leaves to cherish his memory: 2 sons, Homer Winfrey, Jr. and Xavier (Angela) Winfrey, both of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Ivyonna and Xavier Winfrey, II; mother of his children, Sarah Winfrey; mother, Lizzie M. Winfrey; 3 sisters, Exie Alexander, Mary (Grady) Burton and Sherry (Milton) Allen; 4 brothers, Charles (Shirley), Carl (Sandra) and Alby (Barbara) Winfrey, all of Flint, MI and Frank Winfrey of Alabama; 3 aunts, Pearl Young of Flint, MI, Doretha Woods and Mary Ella Lee of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including very special friend, Gill Redmond. Mr. Homer H. Winfrey was preceded in death by his father, John H. Winfrey; 2 sisters, Clace O. Jiles and Lula M. Lewis; brother, Curtis L. Winfrey. The family would like to express its gratitude to the doctors and nurses of McLaren Regional Medical Center ICU, Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge, Min. Herbert Winfrey and the Foss Avenue Baptist Church Family.
