Mr. Herman Lee Feaster

FEASTER, Mr. Herman Lee - Age 87, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Baptist Health Hospital - Louisville, KY. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 2101 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Gerald D. Cardwell officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Feaster will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Herman Lee Feaster was born November 13, 1928 in Warren, Arkansas, the son of John Sullivan and Ethel Angeline (Ross) Feaster. He was the fourth of nine siblings. Herman attended Warren Public School System, graduating from Bradley County High School, “Class of 1947”. After graduation he attended Shorter Jr. College in North Little Rock, Arkansas on an Athletic Scholarship. After his first year he transferred to Arkansas Mechanical & Normal College, now known as University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Herman majored in Agricultural Education; minoring in Biology. While at AM&N he participated in various organizations, including his initiation into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on November 9, 1949. Herman received his Bachelor of Science Degree on May 27, 1952. On January 27,1953, he married his college sweetheart, Theresa Nunn of Brinkley, Arkansas. Upon graduating college, they moved to Flint where he was gainfully employed with Chevrolet Truck & Bus, a division of General Motors for 12 years. Herman attended GMI for training as a Tool & Dye Machinist. He began his educational career teaching Science at Jefferson Community School, while obtaining his certification at the Horace M. Rackham School of Graduate Studies at the University of Michigan. After which he went on to serve as Community School Director at Jefferson. His work experiences lead him to work as a CSD & IMC Clerk at Roy I. Wilkins Elementary School, as well as a Science Teacher. Herman received his Master of Arts Degree in Administration from Eastern Michigan University on June 5, 1971. He retired from Flint Public Schools in 1995 as a Chapter One Social Services Field Worker at Brownell and Martin Elementary School . Herman was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church and an active member on the Trustee and Usher Boards, Men’s Fellowship Club, Laymen’s Organization and on the Security Ministry Team. Herman was involved in many community organizations including the NAACP, Urban League, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Flint, Eureka Lodge #16 FA&M, Saginaw Valley Consistory #71 Epsilon Upsilon Lamda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Life Member), and the UAPB Alumni Association. As busy as he stayed, Herman still found time to garden, read, woodwork and photography. Mr. Herman Lee Feaster leaves to cherish his loving memory: 2 daughters, Angela Feaster (Michael) Tucker of Baton Rouge, LA, Charlotte Feaster (Roger K.) Riddick of Louisville, KY; son, Lawrence El-Amin of New York, NY; grandchildren, Eric Feaster of Ann Arbor, MI, Jason Feaster, of Flint, Taji El-Amin of Howell, MI and Abbas El- Amin of New York, NY, Angel and Morgan Tucker, both of Baton Rouge, LA, Roger K. Riddick II and Aaron Riddick, both of Louisville, KY; great-grandchildren, Tatyana, Alyia, Helena, Bryana, and Layla; sister; Pauline Feaster-Wallace; 4 brothers; John A. (Lillian), Herbert C. (Geraldine), James C. Feaster, all of Flint and Thomas B. (Glenda) Feaster of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 sisters-in-law, Edith Darlene Nunn (WD) Bryant of Maumelle, AR, Geraldine Nunn of Tennessee, Eva Nunn of Cedar Hill, TX; 3 brothers-in-law, JT (Paulene) Wallace and DC Green, all of Warren, AR, and Gerald (Carol) Nunn of San Diego, CA; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Feaster was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Theresa Nunn-Feaster; son, Dr. Rodney L. Feaster, DDS, parents, John S. Feaster and Ethel (Ross) Feaster; mother and father-in-law, James and Edith Nunn; sisters, Travestine Feaster-Alexander, Lillie Mae Feaster-Green; brother, William Feaster; sisters-in-law, Frankie Laverne Feaster, Gladys Nunn-Ray, Dorothy Nunn-Benjamin, Elsie Nunn- McNeal and Shirley Nunn-Feaster; brothers-in-law, Charleston Alexander, James Nunn and Stanley Nunn. The family would like to express special thanks to son-in-law, Roger K. Riddick, Dr. Shelah Peery, brother, John A. Feaster, Mrs. Norma Jarrett, Mrs. Sandra Robinson, Brennan Community Center, nephew, Everett Wallace, Mrs. Helen Green, Daughter, Sylvia Green and the Quinn Chapel AME Church family.
