THOMAS, Mr. Henry J. "Hank" - Age 79, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at University Of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Allen C. Overton Sr., officiating, Pastor Jevon Q. Catlett, Host Pastor. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G- 4413 Flushing Rd. Mr. Thomas will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday with the family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Henry J. Thomas transitioned from labor to reward at University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. Henry was born on October 28, 1939 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Earnestine Goode. Henry moved to Six Mile, Alabama with his mother, grandfather, and aunt. At the age of seven, he started his education at Bibb County Training School in Centerville, Alabama also attending Elementary and High School, graduating in 1954. Henry joined the Pleasant Sabine Baptist Church where he accepted Christ at an early age. Henry moved to Mansfield, Ohio in 1959. In 1962, Henry moved to Flint, Michigan and served as a police officer for the Genesee Township Police Department. Henry was hired by Buick Motor Division and after 33 years of service he retired May 5, 2000. Henry met the love of his life, Doris Barnes, in Flint, Michigan and they married September 5, 1970. From this union one daughter was born, Chandra Shaneen. Mr. Henry J. Thomas “Hank” loved and cherished his family. He set an exemplary example as a husband, father, and grandfather. Henry had a pleasant distinctive voice, quiet demeanor, no-nonsense attitude, and dressed to perfection. He had a million dollar smile and kept his Hummer super clean. Henry loved a beautiful green lawn and was known to rise early at 6 AM to manicure his yard. Most importantly, Henry was spiritually anchored in Christ. Being punctual was a must when attending Sunday School and Church. He was the rock of the Thomas family and everything was always approved first by "Honey". Henry was always the happiest spending precious moments with his wife, daughter and grandchildren. Mr. Thomas leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 48 years, Doris Thomas; 2 daughters, Chandra (Michael) Ingersoll of Swartz Creek, Michigan and Janice Connie of Cincinnati, Ohio; Grandson, Onyx Masias Thomas with whom he shared a special bond; precious granddaughter, Alannah Simone Mitchell; caring grandson, Avion James Ingersoll; A host of nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives including special cousins, Herbert Charles Neeley (Jean) of Pontiac, Michigan, Annie Jo (Jimmy) Voss and daughter Sonya (Miklos) Baugh, Marie, Laura, Ronnie and Edna Goode. Mr. Thomas will be welcomed in heaven by those who have gone home before him, mother, Earnestine Goode; grandfather, Charlie Goode; aunts, Ethel Neeley, Ollie Mae Walker; and uncles, Willie and Wren Goode.
