Mr. Henry Keith Simmons

SIMMONS, Mr. Henry Keith - Age 57 passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Integrity House of Worship, 3209 Clio Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Kirk R. Davis officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Simmons will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, with family present 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Henry Keith Simmons was born August 8, 1956 in Fordyce, Arkansas to Earl L. Williams and the late Henry Thomas Simmons. Keith attended the J. E. Wallace Elementary School and graduated from Fordyce High School with the Class of 1974, Fordyce, Arkansas. He went on to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) where he pledged to the Tau Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, Spring 1977. Keith joined the Jerusalem Baptist Church of Fordyce, Arkansas, under the leadership of Rev. J. N. Bass at an early age. He loved people and being with his family. He will be remembered for his energetic charisma and sincere generosity. He would do anything to help if he could or if he was asked. He kept a smile on his face, showing those big dimples and always tried to bring a smile to others. He was a people person that never met a stranger. Keith relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1990. He joined the Integrity House of Worship Church, under the leadership of Rev. Kirk R. Davis. He remained a dedicated employee of the Flint Community Schools until his untimely passing. His dedication, passion and love for students was demonstrated in the classroom and hallways, as well as on the baseball and football fields while coaching. Mr. Simmons leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and loyal wife, Dana Smith Simmons of Flint, Michigan; daughter, Nicole Howard; 2 sons, Keithan Simmons Sr. and Bjorn “BK” Simmons, both of Little Rock, Arkansas; 2 grandsons, Christopher Page and Davian Shabazz both of Euclid, Ohio; his mother, Earl Cummings, of Flint, Michigan; 5 great-nieces; 4 great-nephews; sister, Sharron Bellamy of Marlton, New Jersey; 3 brothers, Michael Cummings, of Flint, Michigan, Torrin Cummings of Alexandria, Virginia and Bradford Simmons of Oakland, California; 7 nieces; 6 nephews; 2 special cousins, Willie A. (Phyllis) Johnson of Mesquite, Texas and Laurin (Pat) Dennis Dickens of Mesquite, Texas; 2 sisters-in-law, Deborah Miller of San Marcos, California and DeWanda Smith-Soeder of Sarasota, Florida; A host of other relatives and special friends. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by: his father, Henry Thomas Simmons, of Fordyce, Arkansas; grandparents, Alfred & Mattie Lee Simmons; one grandson, Keithan Simmons Jr., of Flint, Michigan; and special aunt, Euola Johnson of Fordyce, Arkansas.
