ANTHONY, Mr. Henry L., Jr. "Pap" - Age 81, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, January 27, 2012 at Vernon Chapel AME Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor M.D. Thomas, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mr. Anthony will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Henry L. “Pap” Anthony, Jr. was born June 17, 1930 in Crawford, Mississippi, the son of Henry L. (Annie Longstreet) Anthony, Sr. Henry was a resident of Flint, Michigan. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Savannah Hairston in Crawford, MS. Mr. Anthony was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant in 1983 with 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 659. Henry was a member of Vernon Chapel AME Church, where he served as Steward, Class Leader and Lay Organization until his health began to decline. Mr. Anthony was a hardworking family man. He was a “jack of all trades”, which included cutting hair and working on cars. Mr. Henry L. “Pap” Anthony, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 60 years, Savannah Anthony; 3 daughters, Shirley (Pastor Wallace) Hill III, Margie Edmonds and Hazel (Yacob) Young; grandchildren, Wallace (Michi) Hill IV, Keith (Candace) Edmonds, Makeia Edmonds, Johnie Franklin III, Robert Anthony, Jr., Jamika Anthony, Tracy Anthony, all of Flint, Darrell Hill of Indianapolis, IN, LaTeeka Anthony of Forest Park, GA and Dionta James of Douglasville, GA; 2 sisters, Carrie Hall of Flint and Annie (Walter) Malone of Crawford, MS; 4 brothers, Willie (Jessie) Anthony, David (Corine) Anthony, Johnnie Anthony, all of Flint and Richard (Judy) Anthony of Oakland, CA; uncle, Rass (Lillie) Anthony of Flint; 5 sisters-in-law, Mary Hairston, Mollie Hairston, both of Flint, Margaret Howard of Riverdale, GA, Lillie Evans of St. Louis, MO and Ida Lee (Frazier) White of Crawford, MS; brother-in-law, Odis Gray, Sr. of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert Anthony and Henry Anthony III; brother, John Anthony; and sister, Vernise Bridges. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff and caregivers of Heartland Health Care Center-Fostrian, Avalon Hospice, Loving Hands, brother, Johnnie Anthony, Vernon Chapel AME Church and Mt.
