Mr. Henry Hickman Jr.

HICKMAN, Mr. Henry Jr. - Age 91, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his residence. Family hour 11:00 AM Monday, January 16, 2023, at First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 1226 Beach St., with funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM Pastor Ezra Tillman, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:00 AM Monday. Mr. Hickman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday, January 15, 2023. Henry was the oldest child of eleven (11) born to Henry and Pauline Hopkins Hickman, on October 9, 1931, in Coweta, Oklahoma. He was baptized at an early age by his grandfather, Rev. Jason Hickman. Henry attended elementary and middle school at Carter G. Woodson, in Tullahassee, Oklahoma. During his high school years, he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where his dad was working and graduated from Bartlesville High School. After high school, Henry joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country as a Fireman. During his military stay, Henry was able to travel the world. Being the loving son that he was, he didn't forget his family and 10 siblings back in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He saw to it that his family received an allotment from his pay every month. He spent over 30 years in the Air Force. Later in life, he met and married Dorothy Strange. No children were born to the union, however, Henry always came back to Oklahoma to see his siblings and many nieces and nephews. Henry worked in several different capacities. He was formally trained in air conditioning and refrigeration, where he began a business. He loved working in this occupation and enjoyed his workers and friends. Henry also loved his wife, Dorothy, providing her with 24 hour care for many years until her death. He also loved his church family, where he was a member of the Brotherhood and Male Chorus. After being diagnosed with health issues, Henry transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, December 29th in his home. Henry Hickman Jr. leaves to cherish his memory siblings: Dr. Rudolph Hickman (Virginia) of Silver Spring, MD; JoAnn Hughes of Muskogee, OK; Ret. Major Paul S. Hickman (Marianna) of Kifisia, Greece, Ernest Hickman (Rev. Carolyn) of Stockbridge, GA, Taft Hickman of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Paulette Logan (Vernon) of Summit, OK; sister-in-law, Sadie Hickman; brother-in-law, Oscar Thurmond; and our last known aunt, Margaret Harrison of Oklahoma City, Ok; a host of other relatives and friends including his devoted and loving caregiver, Tumica Hopkins of Flint; a special nephew, Glen Byers and niece, Brenda Kay (Hickman) Lee. Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Henry and Pauline Hickman; 3 sisters and 1 brother. The family would like to express a special thanks to all that took care of Henry. A special thank you to his church, First Trinity Baptist Church, Pastor Rev. Ezra Tillman for all their love and help during this time.
