MITCHNER, Mrs. Helen - Age 76, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County - Owosso, MI. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Henry L. Fuller, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy, Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Mitchner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd, and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Mrs. Helen R. “Spicy” Mitchner was born April 21, 1939 in Lorena, Mississippi the daughter of Mr. Eddie Frank and Ms. Estella Berry. She accepted Christ into her life at an early age, becoming a member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Lena, Mississippi. She moved to Flint in 1962. In 1970 she became a member with Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Granville Smith. She attended Sunday school, served on the Nurses Guild, Kitchen Committee, Evangelist Team, and was the President of Mission #2, until her illness prevented her. Helen served as the Chairwoman of the Hostess Committee in the Great Lakes District Association Women’s Auxiliary. A position she held for many years. Helen also served as a foster parent for over 20 years. “I will trust in the Lord” was her favorite song which she could be heard singing just as much as she quoted Psalm 23, her favorite scripture. She loved cooking for her friends and family, working in her garden and she loved her hats. Helen loved all God’s children, as much as she loved her own family and close friends. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Rosetta Morris, Sherby (Kenneth) Wilson all of Flint and Deborah (Lamont) Fields of Marion, AR; 5 grandchildren, Dyesheika, Kiesha, LaQuiesha, Delano and Lamont Jr. all of Flint; 16 great-grandchildren, Jmari, Rashamere, Cedric, Ciara, Danyell, Gregory, Shamaya, Quavieon, Shamariona, Breion, Traieonna, Leeya, J’imy, Enahm, Kieshaun and Skylar all of Flint; 2 sisters, Bessie Johnson of Flint and Alisha Berry of Forest, Mississippi; brother, S.J. Berry of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends, including God-daughters, Rosie “Big Rose” McCollum, Sondra “Chocolate Chip” Meekins, Sharise Webb, Sparkle McDonald, and regina Kelly; God-sons, Kerry and Darryl Webb, Adream McDonald; special friends, Emma Webb, Minnie Gill, Betty Petty, Deloris Rush and many, many more. Mrs. Helen R. “Spicy” Mitchner was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Eddie Frank and Ms. Estella Berry; grandparents, Richard and Inize Nicholson; 2 brothers, Q.C. Berry and Elandson William; grandson, Breion; and great-grandson, Gabriel. The family would like to express special thanks to Rev. Henry L. Fuller and the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church family, McClaren “Specialty” Hospital, Hospice House of Shiawassee County, family and friends who cared and showed love and kindness during our time of bereavement.
