BAXTER, Mrs. Helen - Age 79, passed away Monday, August 1, 2005, at Brian's House Hospice. Family hour 10AM Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Rev. Gregory Cavette officiating. Pastor Urundi "Ron" Knox, Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mrs. Baxter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Helen Baxter was born on May 28, 1926 in Flint, Michigan, the third eldest child of Claudia and Milton Clemons. Helen was the loving, devoted and nurturing wife of Matthew L. Baxter, Sr. They shared 55 years of marriage and had three children, Jewell Baxter, Sr., Matthew L. Baxter and Linda D. Baxter Hudson. Helen graduated from Flint Central High School in 1945 and obtained an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Mott Community College in 1975. After living in Flint much of their lives, Helen and Matthew moved to Ocala, FL, in 1985. Helen came to know the Lord at an early age. She was a member of Bethlehem Temple throughout her youth, and in her adult years was a faithful member of Ebenezer Ministries in Burton, MI and New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Ocala, FL. Helen was a Licensed cosmetologist. She owned and successfully operated Helene's Beautyrama for 35 years. Helen was a lifelong participant in entrepreneurial, civic and community activities in Flint and Ocala, FL. She received several certificates for service and continuing education in cosmetology, theology, business, civic, community and church activities. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, entertaining, and serving the Lord. Helen will sadly be missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Helen Baxter leaves to cherish her loving memory: 2 devoted children, Jewell (Linda) Baxter, Sr. of Flint and Linda Darlene Baxter-Hudson of Detroit, MI; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 god-daughters, Tracy Pruett of Flint and Noresa Brown of Ocala, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including, best friends, Margaret Hurd, Elenor Pea and Lydia Armstrong. Mrs. Helen Baxter was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew L. Baxter, Sr.; son, Matthew L. Baxter, Jr.; 3 great-grandchildren; parents, Claudia and Milton Clemons; all 5 of her siblings, Gustava Freeman, Ruth Cavette, Mildred Mitchell, Milton Clemons and Ruby Clemons. The family would like to express special thanks to Brian's House Hospice Care in Davison, MI, Hurley Senior Healthcare and Shandra Randle.
