Hazel Yearby

YEARBY, Mrs. Hazel - Age 57, departed to her heavenly home, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 106 E. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Earnest Ford officiating, Pastor Eric Marks, Host Pastor. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Yearby will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Hazel (Harvey) Yearby was born October 26, 1953 in Enfield, North Carolina to Lee Willie Harvey and Hattie Bell (Johnson) Harvey. The family moved to Flint, Michigan when she was 15 years old. Hazel graduated from Flint Northwestern High School in 1972. Several years later she returned to school to pursue a higher education. Mrs. Yearby received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Management from Detroit College of Business in 1988. For several years Mrs. Yearby was employed as a substitute teacher with the Flint Community Schools. More recently she worked with GCCARD teaching Microsoft applications. Since the founding of New Flint Neighborhood Programs/S.T.O.P. Team in 1987, Mrs. Yearby was actively involved and worked in the development and implementation of a variety of youth programs. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a young age. She has been a dedicated member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church for the past 26 years where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Adult choir. Mrs. Yearby assisted with the organizing of the Vessel of God Ministries. Mrs. Hazel (Harvey) Yearby leaves behind to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Rick Harvey of Flint and Lamar (Tera) Harvey of Kansas City, KS; mother, Hattie Harvey; sisters, Alma Hardy, Belinda (James) Smith, Easter (Earnest) Ford and Carolyn Harvey, all of Flint, Joyce Thomas of Durant, MS; 2 brothers, Lee Willie (Vera) Harvey Jr. and Melton (Geneva) Harvey, all of Flint; 7 grandchildren, Ricky Harvey, Marquez Harvey, Malik and James Harvey and Quez Blackman, all of Flint, Jada Harvey and Jalen Harvey, both of Kanas City, KS; special friends, Connie Edwards, Rita Miller and Fannie Patterson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Yearby was preceded in death by her husband, Soloman Yearby; and father Lee Willie Harvey.
