MAYES, Mrs. Hazel - Age 85, passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11 a.m. Pastor Johnnie Goodman, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Bedford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Mayes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Hazel (Morrow) Mayes was born September 21, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Hubert and Anna (Yokley) Morrow. Mrs. Mayes was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Church of Flint under the pastorate of Pastor Johnnie Goodman and a former member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Mayes married the love of her life Mr. Milton Mayes in 1959 and from this union 6 children were born. She retired from The Fair Store after 21 years in the girls department as a Sales Clerk. Mrs. Mayes was a caring and loving person who cherished being around family and friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren, watering her grass, sweeping her front porch and taking care of her flowers. Mrs. Hazel (Morrow) Mayes leaves in God’s hands to cherish her memory: 4 sons, John (Hellon) Crowley of Columbia, TN, Hardy (Charlene) Crowley, Tony and Michael; 4 daughters, Diane Love, Janet (Hollis) Poole, Shirley Mayes, and Sheila (Alvin) Wallace, all of Flint; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, William Morrow of California; former son-in-law, Floyd Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends survive. Mrs. Mayes was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Mr. Milton Mayes; parents; granddaughter, Danielle Pollard; brother, Webster Morrow; 3 brothers-in-law, Jimmy, Leonard and Johnie Mayes; 2 sisters-in-law, Jimmie Mayes and Annetta Morrow; and son-in-law, Rufus Love. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to McLaren Hospice Team and special thanks to Monsiure Edmund Simmons.
