Hattie Horton

HORTON, Mrs. Hattie - Age 73, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Tuesday. Mrs. Horton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Mrs. Hattie Virginia Horton was born April 2, 1935 in Jackson, Tennessee, the daughter of Harvey and Gladys Pearson. Mrs. Hattie “Squeaky” Horton was a resident of Flint for over 40 years. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the Elks. Hattie graduated from Mary High School in Jackson, Tennessee and received her certificate of nursing in Flint. She fulfilled the role of a full-time model mother. Hattie loved listening to the blues and traveling. She was very compassionate toward others and she loved helping them. Her doors were always opened. Last but not least she loved her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Glenda and Luevenia Horton of Flint and Gwendolyn Wheat of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 sons, Derrick (Bameegha) Horton and Lamar Horton, all of Flint; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; sisters-in-law, Eva Cathey, Fannie Pearson both of Jackson, TN, Deloris Horton of Flint and Vera West of Detroit, MI; brothers-in-law, Cleveland Dudley and Joe Horton, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Richard Haywood, Rita Williams, Moses Johnson, Barbara Thomas, Willie Mae Wheat, Jonathan Austin, Cathy Singleton, Lovie Thomas and Denise Herron. Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James D. Horton; 4 sons, Bruce, James, Prentice and Jerome; 5 sisters, Alice, Dorothy, Elnora, Ruth and Josephine; 5 brothers, Larnell, Thomas, Andrew, Harvey, and Therman; and son-in-law, William Wheat. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Charles E. Roots and the Canaan Baptist Church family, Dr. E. Saeed, Hurley Regional Medical Center, Charles Corthian, Jonathan Austin and the staff of International Academy of Flint.
