Harold Roche

ROCHE, Mr. Harold D., Sr. - Age 77, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1525 S. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Ira Jenkins officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Roche will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Harold David Roche, Sr. was born May 6, 1933 in Vernon, Florida, the son of Pete Roche and Hazel Jenkins. Harold was a resident of Flint since 1953. He married Easter Lillie Richardson in November of 1955. Harold was employed by Fisher Body, a division of General Motors. He was a charter member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a dedicated Deacon for over 20 years. Mr. Roche was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife, Easter Lillie for over 48 years, a loving father and grandfather. Harold was known to be a very stylish dresser. He loved working in the yard and keeping his grass immaculately cut. Harold was a lover of western films and he loved listening to the Blues channel on Saturday mornings. He leaves to cherish his memory: 6 daughters, Mrs. Althea (Jesse) Halbert of Flint, Ms. Kathy Roche of Cincinnati, OH, Ms. Valerie Roche, Mrs. Lorie (Charlie) Miller, all of Flint, Ms. Hazel Roche of Cincinnati, OH and Mrs. Angela (Lester) Word of Tallahassee, FL; 2 sons, Mr. Harold D. Roche, Jr. and Mr. Michael (Shirley) Roche, all of Flint; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; mother, Hazel Potter; brother, James Roche, both of Flint; a host of nieces and nephews; uncle, Pastor Ira and Dorothy Jenkins, Sr. of Mt. Morris, MI; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including, “Special grandson”, David Tremaine Patton who took him to all of his treatments and took care of him during his illness. Mr. Roche was preceded in death by his wife, Easter Lillie Roche; grandson, Antonio Roche; father, Pete Roche; stepfather, Thomas Potter; daughter-in-law, Brenda Roche; and sister-in-law, Marion Roche. The family would like to express special thanks to Mrs. Mary Roberts, Avalon Hospice, the Powell family and Veola Mason.
