Mr. Haile S. Garrison

GARRISON, Mr. Haile S. - age 56, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 4, 2013, surrounded with the love of his father, mother and family as he traveled his journey from this world into Heaven.. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013 at Vermont Christian Church, 1201 Lippincott Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Andre Powell officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mr. Garrison will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Haile S. Garrison was born February 13, 1957 in White Cloud, Michigan, the son of Charles and Hattie Garrison. A loving son, brother, mentor and friend of many, proudly served his country in the branch of the United States Army. He later went on continuing his education earning a Bachelor of Arts in Counseling from Spring Arbor University and a Master of Arts from University of Michigan. He served the community for many years as a Police Officer for the City of Flint, and worked as a Mentor for Randall Elementary School. He had a passion for working with children and believed that each child carried a unique talent that must be encouraged and developed. This passion and willingness to serve inspired him to create afterschool outreach programs, which played a vital role in increasing MEAP test scores. His philosophy of life was “if not me, then who.” This positive mindset could be seen daily as he inspired, encouraged and helped others, always looking for a creative way to bring out the best. He enjoyed reading, writing, music, and believed that reading was for the mind just as exercise is for the body. He loved and served the Lord with all his heart, and embraced life daily with a bright smile. He leaves to cherish his memory: parents, Charles and Hattie Garrison; 10 sisters, Vanessa, Mary, Sheryal, Adale and Tonyai Garrison, Tracy (Sam) Farah, Hattie (Brian) Willoughby, Billetta (Reginald) Lay, Holly (Dwayne) Barfield and Shonda Blackwell; 2 brothers, Gamal (Maia) Garrison and Haile Blackwell; special friends, Chuckie Ewing, Aubrey Porter, Denise Green and Aundre Henry; a host of nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. The family would like to express special thanks to Heritage Manor, Hospice and many family and friends who have shown so much love, support and encouragement throughout this journey. We are Blessed indeed.
