Mr. Gregory Carlton Copeny Sr.

COPENY, Mr. Gregory Carlton Sr. - age 65, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in Chattanooga, TN. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Copeny will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Copeny was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army. Mr. Gregory C. Copeny, Sr. was born July 29, 1948 in Johnson City, Tennessee, the son of John Sr., and Mary Copeny. Mr. Copeny attended Mott Community College and Lansing Community College earning his degree. Gregory was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He re-dedicated his life to the Lord on July 2, 1995 and was a member of the El-Shaddai Church of God In Christ Ministries. Mr. Copeny retired after 40 years at General Motors where he worked in the Skill Trades Department (Truck Repair) as Head Team Leader. He was also a member of the UAW Local #599 and The American Legion and other veteran affiliates. His hobbies included: music, video games, fishing, traveling, singing, helping, giving to others, being a handy man around his home and for his friends and family. Mr. Gregory C. Copeny, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Gregina (Curtis) Towner of Grand Blanc, MI, and Charlene (Toma) Lightfoot of McDonald, TN; son, Gregory C. (Chelsa) Copeny Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Jarius and Elijah Copeny of Raleigh, N.C., J’Shonna and Janae Smith, Amari Towner all of Grand Blanc, MI, Takiya Thomas and Tomaya Lightfoot of McDonald, TN; mother, Hazel Copeny; 2 sisters, Carol (Stephen) Giles of Chattanooga, TN, and Gail Copeny of Flint; 3 brothers, John, Gary, and Larry (Margaret) Copeny, all of Flint; 5 nieces, Patricia, Teresa, and Felicia Copeny, Tanyanika Gibbs and Kendra Watson; 5 nephews, Jabari Giles of Paul’s Valley, OK, De’Andre, J’narius (Shallona) Copeny, Ceasare´ Copeny and John Copeny III all of Flint; 2 aunts, Barbara Watterson of Johnson City, TN, and Emma Chiles of Washington, DC; uncle, Richard Watterson of Johnson City, TN; sister-in-law, Margaret Copeny of Flint brother-in-law, Stephen Giles of Chattanooga, TN; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends; Marjorie Watson, Ms. Rita Bowie and Ms. P.J. Mr. Copeny was preceded in death by: father, John Copeny Sr.; grandmother, Willie Loller; 2 uncles, John and Harold Young; 2 cousins, Marcina Love, and Jerry Chiles. The family would like to express special thanks to El-Shaddai Ministries C.O.G.I.C. family, Power of God Ministries, their many friends, co-workers, church families, and relatives.
