Mr. Gregory Lavern Brock

BROCK, Mr. Gregory Lavern - Age 70, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Word of Life Christian Church, 460 W. Atherton Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor George Wilkinson officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Brock will lie in state at Word of Life Christian Church and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM Friday. Mr. Gregory Lavern Brock was born October 19, 1953 in Flint, Michigan, the oldest and only son of Lois (Goodwin) and Jesse Brock. Gregory affectionately known as “Brock” matriculated through the Flint Community Schools graduating from the old Flint Northern High School ”Class of 1971.” During high school, Greg excelled in Track and Field, holding a record in “High Hurdles” until the school’s closure in 2013. After graduation, Gregory attended General Motors Institute (GMI), currently Kettering University, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Brock was selected to participate in the Co Op program which allowed him to attend classes during the academic year and work throughout the summer. Gregory’s passion for Track and Field led him to leave General Motors and attend college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico. During his enrollment there, Gregory placed first in the National Junior College Championship High Hurdles. Mr. Brock returned to General Motors in the late 1970s and entered the Apprenticeship Program in 1984, where he earned his journeymen’s card as a Tool & Die Maker. Gregory served in various capacities within the plant, later becoming a Health and Safety Representative as well as a proud member of UAW Local #659. Greg was a devoted and was a dependable worker of fifty plus years until departing this life. Gregory met his future wife Michelle Bowie in the summer of 1984. The two of them were united in Holy Matrimony on June 8, 1985. Their union brought forth two beautiful daughters and several grandchildren. Mr. Brock loved his family unconditionally, especially his “Grands.” Gregory was a proclaimed Elite Southern Cooking Chef at heart. He brought happiness to others through his culinary skill. Everyone agreed that whatever the occasion, Gregory was there to serve generous portions of “Delicious Home Cooked Food.” Mr. Brock was always willing to help others no matter how near or far. He could never say “NO” if asked to do something. At an early age, Gregory joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of Dr. Herbert B. Dixson. In 2007, Mr. Brock became a faithful member of Word of Life Christian Church, devoting his work for the Lord in the Kitchen and Food Ministry. Mr. Gregory Lavern Brock leaves to cherish his memory: devoted and loving wife of 39 years, Michelle Lynn Bowie-Brock of Grand Blanc, MI; children; sons, Shelton (Jamie) Brock of MS., Marlin Timpleton of Flint; daughters, Carmella Brock of Grand Blanc, MI and Carol (Daniel) Brock-Edwards of Burton, MI; grandchildren, Tony Brock, Carter Brock and Montrell Moore all of Grand Blanc, MI, Karson Brock of Swartz Creek, MI, Maisie Lynn Green and Malani Lynn Edwards, both of Burton, MI; sisters, Jacqueline F. Jackson, Helen L. (William) Koger, Winifred M. Brock, Carolyn Brock, and Shari L. Brock; brother, Cortez Brock; nieces, Ashey, and Jonisha, all of Michigan; Stephanie, Ta’Tonya, Ta’Sheika, and Ta’Kela, all of California; nephews, Demetris, Dorelle, Kenneth Jr., Jordan and Jakobe, all of Michigan, George Jackson III of California and Morgan Bowie of Texas; aunts, Marilyn Lee of AK; Laconnia Jones and Pheobe Anthony of Georgia; uncles, Elmer Goodwin and Norphlet Goodwin of AK; cousins, Steve, Kelvin, Gather, Derrick, Bryon, Sharon and LaSonya (Darrell) Campbell; sisters-In-Law, Sandra Bowie of Texas and Jada Bowie of Flint; A host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Reginald Smith, Willis Lewis, Kevin Davis, Sherry Pinson-Kelley, Aileen (Dave) Louis, and Kay (Willie) Shannon. Mr. Brock was preceded in death by parents, Jessie Brock and Lois Brock; sister, Deborah Brock; father-in-law George Bowie; mother-in-law, Darresia Bowie; brothers-in-law, Terry Bowie, Kenneth Bowie, and Dwain Bowie.
