Mrs. Gloria Elsena Hamlin

HAMLIN, Mrs. Gloria Elsena - age 84, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at her residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2109 M.L. King Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Rodney Ellison officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Association, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Hamlin will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Mrs. Gloria Elsena Hamlin was born on August 29, 1930 in Smithers, West Virginia, the daughter of Dearance and Alberta Keaton. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Dr. H.B. Dixson, where she served on the Senior Usher Board and on the kitchen committee. Gloria was a very loving and influential person who cared about the well being of others. A woman of many talents, she loved working in her yard, enjoyed upholstery, home improvement and bowling. She was a splendid cook; she made the best fried chicken and sweet potato pie. She was employed throughout her years working at McLaren Hospital, the Hyatt Regency, the Y.M.C.A. and for Ben and Lynn Handa. Mrs. Hamlin leaves to cherish her memory: 4 daughters, Demetric (Richard) Morrison, Elaine (Roy) Key and Eloise Hamlin, all of Flint, and Jacqueline (Kenneth) Bransford of Burton, MI; 3 sons, Gregory (Joann) Hamlin of Flint, Steven Hamlin of Houston, TX and David Hamlin of Lancaster, TX; the love of her life, Tiger; grandchildren, Tyrone, LaVell (Sharon), Alvin, Chekeetha, Gloria, Donald (Ralkeita), Edwin and Gregory Hamlin, Jerry Turnbow, Shonshanda, Juliann and Pamela Hodo, Rashida (Marcus) Staten, Safiya (Christopher) Ashford, Jeremy Slaughter, JaJuan and Janesha Davis; 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Alberta (George) Haamid; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Ben and Lynn Handa. Mrs. Hamlin was preceded in death by: her husband, Herman Hamlin; son, Jerry Hamlin; granddaughter, Vartina Hamlin; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Virginia Robertson; brother, Dearance Keaton. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Rodney and Cassandra Ellison and the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church family, Dr. Henry Mendoza, Dr. Arora and Dr. Singh.
