GRANT, Mrs. Gloria - Age 73, passed away April 9, 2008 at her residence. Family hour 10:30AM Monday, April 14, 2008 at Vernon Chapel AME Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11:30AM, Pastor Ernest J. Garrison officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Monday. Mrs. Grant will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10AM-6PM Sunday. Mrs. Gloria Marsh Grant was born November 9, 1934 in Logan, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Cooper T. and Ida Marsh. She received her early education in West Virginia, graduating from Aracoma High in 1952. Gloria received her secondary education at Wilberforce University where she sang and traveled with the University Choir and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zeta Chapter. She graduated from Wilberforce University in 1956 with a Bachelors in Education. Gloria then moved to Flint, beginning a career with the Flint Board of Education, teaching at both Dort and Parkland Elementary Schools. She also then joined the Vernon Chapel AME Church and worked within the music ministry over 30 years. Gloria met and married Normal Leso Grant, December 5, 1958 to this union one child, Lyria Regina was born. She then became employed by Genesee County Model Cities where she worked as a Program Coordinator, later working with Greater Flint OIC as a Lead Case Manager, lastly working as the GCCAA SYETP Director for over 10 years. During her lifetime, she has worked with numerous churches throughout Flint contributing to the ministry through music and song. Mrs. Gloria Marsh Grant leaves to mourn her loss: daughter, Lyria Regina Grant and friend, Gary Gibson; grandson, Timothy Charles Grant-Randall all of Houston, TX; 2 brothers, Charles Marsh of Flint and Jonathan Marsh of Birmingham, AL; numerous sisters-in-law including, Viola Walker and Virginia Grant of California; brothers-in-law, Andrew and Willie Grant, Marvin and Beulah Grant, George and Lottie Grant all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special dear friends including Jacqueline Jordan, Susie Brown, Addie George, Mary Alice Branch, Ann Newman, Penny Dean, Minnie Harden, and Bruce Strange and Charles Johnson. Mrs. Gloria Marsh Grant was preceded in death by husband of 45 years, Normal Leso Grant; parents, Cooper T. and Ida Marsh; 2 brothers, Johnnie Lee Marsh and Ronald Eugene Marsh. The family would like to express special thanks to Shirley, Jeri and Kathy of Avalon Hospice, Vernell Lee and Sheila Stewart.
