GOODRUM, Mrs. Gloria - Age 75, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007. Family hour 5PM-7PM Friday, January 19, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Vernon Chapel A.M.E., 5802 Dupont St. Pastor Bobby L. Banks, Jr., officiating. Private interment at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Saturday. Mrs. Goodrum will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Friday. Mrs. Gloria Dolores Goodrum, a retired educator, was born July 6, 1931, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the oldest child of Mr. Earl Palmer and Mrs. Bettye Palmer (Townsend). She matriculated at Merrill High School and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (formerly known as Arkansas AM&N College). Mrs. Goodrum relocated to Flint, Michigan in early 1950 after marrying her high school sweetheart, the late Ivory C. Goodrum, Sr., on December 4, 1949. She was a faithful member of Vernon Chapel A.M.E. Church having celebrated 25 years of membership in June 2006. Mrs. Goodrum was a church officer and participated in many Vernon Chapel auxiliaries, including Class Leader, Stewardess, Nurses Guild, Senior Usher Board (serving as secretary), Cook Missionary Society, and Outreach Ministry. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle for about 13 years prior to joining Vernon Chapel. Mrs. Goodrum enjoyed family gatherings, bible study, gardening, traveling, sewing, photography, and arts and crafts. Mrs. Goodrum leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Ivory (Janet) Goodrum, Jr. of Flint, MI, and Willie (Heather) Goodrum of Flagstaff, AZ; 3 daughters, Cheryl (Charlie) Short of Saginaw, MI, Danon (Dean) Garland of Grand Blanc, MI, and Roslynn (Rev. Bobby Jr.) Banks of Flint; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; mother; stepmother Lorraine Palmer; brothers and sisters, Earl (Virginia) Palmer, Jr., Marjorie (James) Hampton, Richard (Heidi) Palmer, Sr., Dorothy Johnson, Beverly Murray, Joseph Palmer, JoAnn (Edward) Birden, Donald Mayo, Patricia Mayo, Debra Scott, Stanley Scott, Muriel Phillips, Tyrone Earl (Tyrea) Palmer, Geraldine Palmer, Loraine (Michael) Snead; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Emma (Arthur) Whyte, Louis Goodrum and Faye Goodrum; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; specially embraced daughters and sons, and many other special friends too numerous to name; and the Vernon Chapel and Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church families. Mrs. Goodrum was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years; father; granddaughter, Tammie Goodrum; brothers, Jerry (Future) Palmer and Ronald Mayo; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie E. and Ophelia (Johnson) Goodrum; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom (Earnestine) Goodrum, Buck Goodrum, Willie Mae Nash and Douglas Goodrum. The family would like to express special thanks to Portia Eldridge, Dr. G. Rode, Dr. J. Foreback, Dr. E. Saeed, the staff at McLaren Regional Medical Center, Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan, Senior Home Health Care, and Select Specialty Hospital.
