Gladys Williams

WILLIAMS, Mrs. Gladys - Age 82, passed away Friday, January 27, 2006 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1PM Saturday, February 4, 2006 at St. James C.M.E. Church, 310 W. Wood St., with funeral service commencing at 2PM. Pastor Diane Beverly, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 1PM Saturday. Mrs. Williams will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mrs. Gladys Lee Williams was born on April 26, 1923 in Wheatly, Arkansas, the daughter of Sylvester Dole Payne and Beaulah Cantrell. She met and was united in Holy Matrimony with Isiah Williams on October 10, 1942. Gladys and her family relocated to Flint in 1950. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. When she was able to attend, her church home was Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Williams worked as an Interior Decorator and in domestics until she retired. Shortly thereafter, she became a full-time caregiver to her daughter, Lanie, mother, Beaulah and sister, Naomi and also her husband until her death. For many years she also cared for her children and grandchildren. She was a hard worker, always cleaning. Gladys loved plants and flowers. She spent time doing yard work, home repairs and painting until she was called home. Mrs. Gladys was also a wonderful cook and everybody enjoyed her cakes and pies. Mrs. Gladys Lee Williams leaves to cherish her memory; husband, Isiah Williams; 2 daughters, Earnestine Williams Burnett, and Melinda "Birdie" Williams; 3 sons, Glemon (Barbara) Allmon, Lee Andrew Williams, and Al "Jimmie" Williams; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; step-sister, Mrs. Wisie Lee (Willis) McChester; step-brother, Mr. Samuel L. (Sophia) Tucker and Mr. Levern (Ruth) Hall; brother-in-law, Willie Carl (Rita) Williams; many other relatives and friends including special friends, the Coleman, Fordham, Harris, Rawls, Moss, Perry, Alexander, and King Families, Phyllis Clayton, Diane Williams, Anthony Golden, and any others we have missed. Mrs. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Dole Payne and Beaulah Cantrell Hall; grandparents, Idella and Ben Cantrell; sister, Naomi Dunn; children, James Williams and Lanie R. Williams Alexander; grandchild, DeRikeo Williams; uncle, Quilla "QT" Cantrell; aunts, Quilla Appleberry, Irene Brown, and Magnolia Allmon.
