Mrs. Girline Segrest

SEGREST, Mrs. Girline - age 79, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center-Briarwood. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Fairhaven Seventh-Day Adventist Church, G-1379 W. Louis Ave. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Segrest will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Girline Segrest was born April 24, 1935 in Jefferson County, Alabama, the 2nd oldest of the late Joseph and Cora McNair. Girline grew up in Bessemer, Alabama and moved to Michigan in 1968. In 1977, Girline married the love her life, Mr. Samuel Segrest. Mrs. Segrest worked at Good Samaritan Home Care and provided 28 years of loyal service at Hurley Medical Center, before retiring. Girline was a faithful member of Fairhaven Seventh Day Adventist until she fell ill. She leaves to forever cherish her beautiful memory: 3 sons, Roosevelt (Cassie) Nichols of Flint, MI., Derrick Cleveland of Mississippi and Antonio Segrest of Grand Blanc, MI; 2 daughters, Shiletha Segrest and Latasha Segrest, both of Burton, MI; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Dorothy, Barbara, Cleo, all of Hartford, CT., and Stella of Bronx, NY; 2 brothers, Matthew and Nathaniel (Earnestine), all of Bessemer, AL; 2 brothers-in-law, Jacob and Esau (Flora) Segrest, all of Flint, MI; 2 sisters-in-law, Arnetta Mabry and Dorothy Simpson of Flint, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Barbara Manuel, Alberta Lee and Arnetta Mabry. Mrs. Segrest was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Segrest; parents, Joseph and Cora McNair; son, Anthony Nichols; daughters, Hattie Mae Segrest and Mindy Nichols; 2 sisters, Queen Ester, and Joan; 4 brothers, Joseph, Leon, Lawrence and Donald; 2 brothers-in-law, Isiah and Joseph; 3 sisters-in-law, Alta, Ruthie and Celia.
