Mrs. Gerdine Wells

WELLS, Mrs. Gerdine - Age 75, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2023, at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, September 9, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 P.M>, Pastor Henry Fuller Jr.., officiating. Interment Gracelawn Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw Sr. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home, 1:30 PM Saturday. Mrs. Wells will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public Viewing will be held during the family hour only. Gerdine “Jerri” Wells, 75, of Flint, Michigan, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 29, 2023. She was born November 28, 1947 to the late Jeremiah and Cora Sims in Marvell, Arkansas. Gerdine professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Asbury Baptist Church in Marvell, Arkansas, where she worked on a host of ministries. She later joined Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastor, Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller Jr. She was a faithful member of her Church and Sunday School. Gerdine was educated in the Marvell Public School District and graduated from M. M. Tate High School Class of 1966. She was a Majorette, and loved participating in her school activities. Gerdine worked as a CNA at Chateau Garden Nursing Home, St. Joseph Hospital and retired from McLaren Hospital, Flint, Michigan. She always cared for her patients as if they were her own family. Gerdine married her soulmate Eddie, from this union, Eddie and Gerdine had three children Excell Benn, Step-children Eddie Wells Jr., Marvin Wells (deceased) and Sonja Settles. Gerdine is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Wells; parents, Jeremiah and Cora Sims; two brothers, Oscar Sims and Rickie Sims; and one sister, Alice Sims Bradley. A devoted wife, mother, sister, cousin, and aunt, Gerdine leaves to cherish in her memory: son, Excell Benn Jr.; brothers, James (Thressa) Sims of West Helena, AR, Jeremiah (Kathy) Sims, Leotis (Beverly) Sims, all of Little Rock, AR and Kelvin (Senthia) of Marvell, AR; sisters, Dian (Larry) Hicks of Little Rock, AR and Gail Doss (the late Larome) of Maumelle, AR; Special Niece Earline Young and a host of relatives that will truly miss her loving and caring spirit.
