Mrs. Geraldine Turner

TURNER, Mrs. Geraldine - Age 96, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019 at Ascension-Genesys. Family hour 10:30 AM Monday, August 26, 2019 at New Creation Church of God, 34272 Lennon Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Dr. Herbert L. Banks officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Monday. Mrs. Turner will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Sunday with the family present from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM to receive friends. Mrs. Geraldine Willis Turner was born April 23, 1923 in Barnesville, Georgia, she was the 2nd daughter of John Otis and Elizabeth (Bell) Willis. She went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, August 16, 2019 at Genesys Ascension Hospital. Her father passed in 1929 leaving her mother to raise 6 children. The family moved to Flint, Michigan in 1931. They joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church soon after their arrival and she spent much of her young life there. Geraldine attended Clark Elementary, Whittier Jr. High and Flint Central High School graduating in 1942. Mrs. Turner met and married her soulmate, Jesse Turner in 1943. The couple had 3 boys and 3 girls. The family lived 20 years at 1407 Liberty St., then on E. Wellington for 50 years. After graduating high school, she became a Licensed Beautician and Shop Owner for many years. Mother Turner then worked for Industrial Mutual Association (I.M.A.) in Food Services, retiring in 1988 after 18 years of employment. She was a faithful member of New Creation Church of God (previously Twelfth Street Church of God). She served as a dedicated Usher and was an Officer at the State and National levels. Mother Turner was the Church Secretary for many years; she also served on the Mothers Board, Kitchen Committee and as a Deaconess. She loved the Lord with all her heart and loved serving Him and His people. Sister Turner was a Teacher and Encourager to many young women; teaching them to love their families and others. Everyone loved her Tea Cakes and Homemade Rolls (and many other dishes). In her younger years she loved to shop and you can tell that by how she dressed. She loved hats and loved having everything matching. Mrs. Geraldine Willis Turner leaves to cherish her memory: 3 children, Michael (Patsy) Turner of Flint, Jesse (Robin) Turner Jr. and Bonnie (James) Armstrong, all of Lansing, MI; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several god-children and extended family members. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Turner; along with 3 children, Sharon, Ronnie and Marsha; as well as parents, brothers, sisters and many other family members.
