JOHNSON, Mrs. Geraldine - Age 63, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Genesys Health Park. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Reginald Flynn, D.Min., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Geraldine Johnson was born February 14, 1947 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of Mr. Jesse and Helen Cunningham. She accepted Christ at an early age and loved the Lord until the day she was called home. Geraldine married her childhood sweetheart, Jimmy Johnson in 1966 and to this holy union they had two sons, Brian and Timothy Johnson. She was the Valedictorian of the graduating class of Merrill High School in 1965. Mrs. Johnson was a proud Alumni of Merrill High School and she showed her loyalty by a constant display of their “Purple and Gold” school colors. She received a notable mention in the Who’s Who of America. Geraldine also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, AR and two Master Degrees from Eastern Michigan University for Education and Special Education. Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated Teacher for the Beecher School District for 32 years. She was extremely intelligent and was always ready and willing to challenge your mind to be at your best and brightest. She enjoyed learning, studying the Bible, reading, shopping, spending time with her grandchildren, and had a passion for educating. Mrs. Johnson’s unconditional love and generosity had touched the lives of many, including her students spanning over 3 decades in the Flint area. She will be sadly missed and was a true treasure to the community. Mrs. Geraldine Johnson leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Jimmy Johnson; son, Brian (Amber) Johnson and her most beloved treasures, her 8 grandchildren, Sade’, Micah, Brian Jr., Kiana, Briana, Timothy, Brianne and Brianca Johnson; Mrs. Johnson adored her grandchildren and was very proud of them; brother, J.W. (Pam) Cunningham of Indianapolis, IN; 2 sisters, Annette (Dave) Hatton of Livingston, NJ and Jesse Marie (Eltra) Moody of Los Angeles, CA; brother-in-law, Ocie Jr. (Mary) Johnson; 4 sisters-in-law, Vivian (Henry) Williams, Jacqueline (Curley) Roberts, Sandra (David) Talbert and Brenda Hayes; Mrs. Johnson had many brothers and sisters, they were all loved; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; special friends, Ann Harris, Derryl Evans and Juanita Battle. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Johnson; parents, Jesse and Helen Cunningham; and special aunt, Pattie Biggs.
