Mother Georgia Mae Oliver

OLIVER, Mother Georgia Mae - age 91, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Fletcher Johnson officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mother Oliver will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday. Mother Georgia Mae (Adams) Oliver was born December 20, 1922 in Wiscoal, Kentucky, one of ten children of Mr. Windom Lee and Lillie Mae Adams. She was a resident of Flint. Mother Oliver went to West Liberty High School in Vicco, KY and she joined Little Home Church of Red Fox while she resided in Kentucky. She moved to Flint in the 1950’s where she met Floyd Oliver. She was employed with the Stevens family, Judge Ransom and the Schreiber family as a Domestic Helper for many years. Mother Oliver was a strong, God fearing, loving, sassy and bossy little lady. She enjoyed watching her cowboy shows all day, singing, eating and always trying to savor the flavor of every bite. She loved her family and dogs (Missy, Lady, and Cujo). Mother Oliver was the mother at First New Life Baptist Church. She loved to take everyone in and she loved to feed anyones children. Mother Georgia Mae (Adams) Oliver leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Charmaine (Tim) Mathis; daughter-in-law, Tonya Smithers; son-in-law, Homer Norris; 11 grandchildren, Diego Miles of Montgomery, AL, Yanine (Michael) Former of Tampa, FL, Shawana Smithers of Flint, Shayonne (Chandler) Hall of Atlanta, GA, Tynisha Reed of Flint, Tony Atkins-Smithers of Atlanta, GA, Tisha, Tiera, Chartima, and Tim all of Flint, and Jonathan Mathis; 2 sisters, Rosetta (Melvin) Smither, and Dessie M. Adams of Lexington, KY; 2 brothers, Wilbert (Betty) Adams of Wilmore, KY, and Allen (Brenda) Adams of Flint; 5 special grandchildren; 7 special great grandchildren; 15 great great special grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends including special niece as well as caregiver, Patricia Isom; nephews; and special friends Shirley Fisher and Gail Arnold. Mother Georgia Mae (Adams) Oliver was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Oliver; daughter, Bernice Norris; grandson, Leon Smithers; 2 sisters, Matra Isom and Jessi Richmond; 2 brothers, Berlan and Dillard Adams; and her parents Windum and Lillie Mae Adams.
