George Young

YOUNG, Mr. George - Age 59, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2006 at his residence. Family hour 11AM Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth, with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pasor Roy I. Greer, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Mr. Young will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. George W. Young was born September 28, 1946 in Flint, Michigan to Mrs. Pearl M. Young and the late George Young. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and grew up in New Zion Baptist Church. George attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1964. Upon graduation he joined the United States Marine Corp where he served for two years. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended Mott Community College. He was employed by General Motors for 41 years becoming a skilled tradesman at Chevrolet Truck & Bus. George Young believed that service to others was the price we paid for living in this world. Therefore, he served as a trustee of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, a volunteer/mentor at Pierson and Gundry Schools and as a Big Brother for several years. He was a life member of the NAACP. George's passions were working, traveling and dining at five star or ethic restaurants. He visited most of the United States including Hawaii. He spent weeks in India, China, Thailand, Japan/Hong Kong, Italy, Spain, France, Canada and the Caribbean. George leaves three children: Michelle, Omar, and Keisha Young; three grandchildren, Ashnee, Christina and Christopher Young. He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Pearl Mae Young; two brothers, Henry Young and Roy K. (Janice) Young; three sisters, Mae Helen (Randy) Smith, JoAnn (Robert) Marzette and Barbara (Clifford) Burks; two children by choice (nieces) - Chiketa Young and Eboni (Dionte) Gordon; special nephews, Dennis (Shannon) Cannon, Jr., Rod Smith, Cory Hodges; special nieces, Sheila Lovette (Curtis) Coston, Danine (Osman) Lindley, Stephanie Cannon, Masharri Riddle-Rogers, and Tiffany Cannon. George leaves a special friend, Patricia Avery, who was most helpful to his family. Mr. Young was preceded in by his father, George Young; maternal and fratenal grandparents.
