George Morrow

MORROW, Eld. George - Age 71, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, G-5390 Fairhaven St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor Malik Shabazz officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Eld. Morrow will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday. Eld. George Wesley Morrow was born May 26, 1939 in Okolona, Mississippi, the son of Eber James Morrow and Mintee Buchannon. George was a wonderful husband, father and man of God. He served and was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. In 1983, he became a member of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active leader and Elder of the church. He also served on the Deacon Board, was a Sunday school and Bible Study leader and was faithful in picking up members, taking them to and from church. George retired from General Motors after 38 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, studying the word, serving the people and the Lord. Eld. George W. Morrow leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Yvonne (Boxley) Morrow of Flint; 2 daughters, Tasheba Martin of Atlanta, GA and Sophelia Morrow of Flint; son, Ronald Smith of Louisville, KY; stepson, Tommie Jordan of Flint; 5 grandchildren, DeShawn, Deonte’, Derrick, Dylan, all of Atlanta, GA and Brittney Smith of Flint; 2 sisters, Eula Stein Jackson of Kalamazoo, MI and Mary Hankins of Flint; 2 brothers, James Morrow of Clio, MI and Clifford Morrow of Tupelo, MS; a host of nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lois Stein Boxley of Flint; 4 sisters-in-law, Josephine (Walter) Horton, Michelle (Ernest) Tucker, Ophelia Stradwich and Felicia Psalms, all of Flint; 6 brothers-in-law, Mark Boxley of Atlanta, GA, David, Antonio, Shantone, William and Ahmad Boxley, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Ray Bryson, Percy Magee, Bennie Wrose, Joe Porter, Pam Lynch, Thermon Nelson and Pastor Malik A. Shabazz. Mr. Morrow was preceded in death by his daughter, TaJuana Boxley; parents, Eber James Morrow and Mintee Buchannon; sister, Dreddie Mae Jones; father-in-law, Lewis Boxley; 2 sisters-in-law, Catherine Boxley and Melvia McKinney; and special friend, Lynn Carter. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hurley Medical Center, Diane Welker, Dr. Elmahdi Saeed, Dr. Samuel L. Dismond and wife, Pastor Malik A. Shabazz and the True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church family.
