Mr. George Elvin Jones

JONES, Mr. George Elvin - Age 79, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at Ascension Genesys, Grand Blanc, MI. Mr. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed Monday, April 19, 2021 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Graveside service 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Mr. George Elvin Jones was born February 13, 1942 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late Charles Henry Jr. and Alberta Jones. The Jones family moved from Nashville to Flint, Michigan where George attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Southwestern High School. He became a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Flint. During this time he had a Paper Route, which he was very proud of. George left Michigan and enlisted in the United State Air Force and was proud to serve his country from 1962 until 1968. While serving, George was a part of the United States Air Force World Class Athlete Program. Some those years were served at Hickman Air Force Base in Hawaii. George received an Honorable Discharge and returned to Flint and started working for General Motors Corporation (GM), where he attended General Motors Institute and earned his Skilled Trade Tool & Die Maker Journeyman Certification. He retired in 2008 having worked 40 plus years. Within those years he and his family moved to Ohio where he worked at GM for 3-5 years, later returned to Flint and continued working for GM. George enjoyed sports: basketball and was Owner and Coach for the Jay Hawks, and loved football as well. Fishing was a passion of his, sometimes catching Specs and Bluegill. Mr. George Elvin Jones leaves to cherish wonderful and loving memories: wife, Jacquelyn Jones of Grand Blanc, MI; 3 loving sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Derrick (Sarita) Jones of Flint, Daniel Jones of Commerce, MI and David (Robin Hendren) Jones of North Carolina; step-daughter, Jacinda Williams; 11 grandchildren, Derrionte, Julius and Kapriee Jones, all of Flint, Desiree, Destiny, Unalysia and Jillian Jones, Traniece and Samone Grady, Nathaniel Harbson and Gaven Brown; 4 great-grandchildren, Maliah and Bailey Rodgers, Mason Brown and Ivan Trejo; 3 nephews, Marcuc, Strody and Keith Hutchinson; 2 uncles, Robert Britt of Charlotte, NC and Windom Jones of Maywood, IL; cousins, Lucile Hailey family of Flint; 4 sisters-in-law, Brenda Miyoshi (William) Christian, Veronica Smith, Exzellia (David) Dumas and Lynyette Washington, all of Atlanta, GA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Ross Perkins family, Christian family, Rosemond friends and Massey friends. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Jr. and Alberta Jones; sister, Iona Glenn Hutchinson; and brother, Charles Henry Jones Jr. The family would like to express special thanks to DaVita Dialysis of Grand Blanc, MI, Dr. Manjit Grewal and staff, Michigan Vascular and staff, Dr. Mohamad Al-Jabban MD and staff, Ascension Genesys Hospital an Dr. Nael Tavakji MD and staff.
