EVANS, Mr. George W. - Age 84, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at VA Hospital in Saginaw, MI. Memorial Service 4PM Friday, October 9, 2009 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Pastor Donald Alston officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 4PM Friday. Mr. Evans will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Thursday. Mr. George W. Evans was born January 28, 1925 in Halifax, North Carolina, the son of Leacy and Fox Evans. Mr. Evans married Doreatha Cyrus, October 25, 1954 in Nash County, North Carolina. He was Honorably Discharged from United States Army, where he served in the Korean Conflict. George worked in the Navy shipyard in New Port News, Virginia and as a Mill Wright for Buick, a division of General Motors, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Evans loved baseball, fishing, hunting, eating sweets and going to the casino, especially Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant, MI and sneaking cigarettes from his wife, Doreatha. He also enjoyed going to McDonald’s on Dort Hwy. and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. George W. Evans leaves to cherish his memory: wife of 55 years, Doreatha Evans; to this union 5 children were born, Ricky Evans, Sharon (Robert) Brewton, both of Flint, Gwendolyn (Gordon) Cox of Rochester, MI, Jeannine Stinson, Gerard Evans, both of Flint and Rita Miller of Texas; 10 grandchildren, Gewanda (Torre) Brown of Lake Orion, MI, Brooke Brewton, of Flint, Jason (Ashley) Stinson of Clarksville, TN, Jessica Stinson, Whitney Brewton, Markus Evans, all of Flint, Garrett Cox of Rochester, MI, Malcolm Evans, Mariah Evans and Trent Jackson all of Flint; 11 great grandchildren; 6 sisters-in-law, Armedia Tucker of Pennsylvania, Decosia Fant, Julia Evans, Paulette Miller and Almae Evans, all of Flint and Barbara Jean Mercer of North Carolina; 5 brothers-in-law, Timothy Cyrus, Willie Winston, Willie Fant and Robert Miller, all of Flint and Lee Roger Cyrus, Jr. of North Carolina; a host of other relatives and friends including, Marie Smith (raised as his baby sister, adopted by love, Brenda Amos, Nelda Hebert, Elmore Stinson, Eugene Royster, Marvin Seely and everyone else who touched George’s life. Our many thanks. Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, Leacy and Fox Evans; 7 sisters; 2 brothers; mother & father-in-law, Geneva and Lee Roger Cyrus, Sr. The family would like to express special thanks to Whitney and Brooke Brewton, The McDonald Breakfast Club-Dort Hwy., Misty and Chris Marks, the 2nd floor nursing staff at the V.A. Hospital-Saginaw, MI and to everyone else we failed to mention.
