Mr. George W. Colston Sr.

COLSTON, Mr. George W., Sr. - Age 95, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024, at his residence. Funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 11, 2024, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 11:00 AM Thursday. Deacon George W. Colston “President” was born to the late Lillie B. Davis and Henry Colston in Selma, Alabama. On February 5, 1949, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Amanda Johnson. To this union, seven children were born: Betty, Fannie, William George, Carrie, Deborah, Carolyn, and George Jr. George received his education at St. Mark’s School and Street Manual Training Center in Selma, Alabama. Before moving to Flint, Michigan, he worked for 13 years at American Cast Iron Pipe Company (ACIPCO) in Birmingham, AL. Deacon Colston moved to Flint in 1968 and became employed as a Metal Fabricator and Finisher at Flint Chevrolet Metal Fabricating, a division of General Motors Corporation. On August 12, 1981, he was recognized for receiving the No.1 Excellent Quality Index Rating for his finishing on the “S/T” Truck Fenders. He worked at Chevrolet until his retirement on March 3, 1993. In his free time, he built storage houses and did landscaping. George also enjoyed fishing. After giving his life to the Lord, he became a Deacon at Pentecostal Temple Church Of God In Christ (COGIC), under the leadership of Pastor James P. Sanders. Later he fellowshipped with Holy Hill COGIC and Redeeming Grace Ministries COGIC, under the leadership of Pastor George Colter, respectively. George W. Colston “President” leaves to cherish his memory: children, Fannie B. Griggs of Birmingham, AL, Carrie A. Sykes, Deborah Colston of Birmingham, AL, Carolyn (George) Grundy, all of Flint, MI, George (Jackie) Colston Jr. of Mt. Morris, MI and Dan Earl Johnson of Flint, MI; sister, Kittie Davis of Selma, AL; 12 grandchildren, Marenda Griggs, George Frederick Grundy II, Marques (Renika) Ogden Colston, Lakisha (Tiachi) Jordan, Tiffany Lynette Sykes, Cherese Colston, George Colston III, Ramona Bishop-Burton, Ashley Burks, LaDonna Croff, Christopher Rauls and Emery Burks; 11 great-grandchildren, Darrian, Pearle, Chloe, Israel, Isaiah, Damontae, DaMyiah, Laila, Leah, Aaniya Kristen Nyomii; great-goddaughter, Sakioya Atkins; close friend & brother-in-law, Deacon Eddie (Alice) Gilmore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers & sisters-in-law, and friends. Deacon Colston was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Colston; daughter, Betty Colston-Allen; new-born son, William George; grandson, Willie James Griggs, Jr.; grandmother, Clara Douglas Housman; mother, Lillie B. Richardson Davis; brother, Mark Hunter.
