Mr. George Leonard Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Mr. George Leonard - Age 62, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, August 27, 2016 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Elder Patrick Sanders, Sr. officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Cleveland will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00PM to receive friends. Mr. George L. Cleveland, Sr. was born on September 23, 1953 in Farmerville, LA, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Idell and Mary Cleveland. He confessed Christ at an early age. George was a resident of Mount Morris, MI and resided in Michigan for 43 years, moving from Farmerville, LA to employment with General Motors. He graduated from Farmerville High School, Class of 1971. George attended Mott Community College and was a skilled tradesman, Machine Repair at Buick, Plant 36 Engine, a division of General Motors. He retired in 2009 with 36 years of dedicated service. George was one of the world’s Greatest Hunters and Fishermen. He was also a great farmer and people came to buy his vegetables every year. George was very comical and always found good in everyone. He met no strangers. He was a very pleasant and polite man who touched so many people in his short life. George was united in marriage to Shumetria Johnson on December 31, 1984 and has been married for 31 years. To this union 4 children were born. Mr. Cleveland, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife; Shumetria Cleveland; children, Alexis Cleveland (fiancé, Andrew Mayr) of Kalamazoo, MI, Geroid Cleveland of Saginaw, MI, Brittany Cleveland of Mt. Morris, MI, Webster Cleveland of Whidbey Island, WA; Idell D. Cleveland, III, Gregory (Diana) Cleveland, all of Flint, George (Stacey) Cleveland, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, Latrice (Larry) Martin of Houston, TX and son at heart, Elliot Bastien Carroza-Oyarce; special children, Alana Rice, Ashley Jefferson, Aston Harper, Lawrence Radden and Kristen Smith; grandchildren, Preston Cleveland, Ryan Ashley, Gregory Cleveland, Jr., Tarik Cleveland, Aneesa Colvin, Naima Cleveland, Abdur-Raheem Cleveland, Maryam Cleveland, Muhammad Cleveland, Uthmaan Cleveland, Riane Cleveland, Jalil Cleveland, Jared Cleveland, Kamia Cleveland, Aniya Cleveland, Jairus Thomas, Madden Martin and Taylen Martin; 2 sisters, Evelyn Hatter of Houston, TX and Jackie Cleveland (Lawrence) Hill of Spearsville, LA; 3 brothers, Rev. Clayton (Edith) Williams, Rev. Curtis (Dorothy) Thomas and Gunzell (Dorothy) Cleveland all of Houston, TX; 4 sisters-in-law, Etta (Henry) Robinson of Flint, MI, Margie (Dan) Caner of Chicago, IL, Audrey Rice of Flint, and Iona Hall of Memphis, TN; 2 brothers-in-law, Charles (Janet) Johnson of Chicago, IL and Willis (Deborah) Johnson of Houston, TX; a host of nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins and other relatives and friends. Mr. Cleveland, Sr. was preceded in death by: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Idell (Mary) Cleveland; brothers, Willie Williams, Jr., Idell D.
