Mrs. Geneva Vernon

VERNON, Mrs. Geneva - Age 70, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 2120 N. Saginaw, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Daniel Moore, officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, 2020 Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Vernon will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Geneva Vernon was born January 19, 1949 in Dundee, Mississippi. She made her transition from this life on October 24, 2019. Geneva worked for Illinois Bell Phone Company as a Master Switch Board Operator before Samuel Vernon whisked in and swept her off her feet. They were inevitably united in Holy Matrimony on June 28, 1976 and moved to Flint, MI. She transferred her job to Saginaw, MI, and worked there until she got tired of commuting. Geneva then started another career at Whaley Children Center, until she excitedly retired in 2001. She accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of God's Tabernacle of Truth (Flint, MI), serving as the Chief Culinary Chef, President of Usher Board, and Treasurer until her beloved Bishop Richard Mosley passed away. Geneva eventually found and became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (Flint, MI), serving on the Mothers Board. Geneva graduated from Lucy L. Flower Vocational High School in Chicago Illinois and continued her secondary education at Mott Community College in Flint. Our beloved Geneva was affectionately called “Pumpkin” by her family. She had a beautiful spirit and was a strong-willed and devoted wife, loving mother, sister, aunt and awesome grandmother. Geneva also loved to cook, help others and most definitely feed them. Geneva leaves to cherish her sweet memories: loving and caring husband, Samuel Vernon; sons, Edwin Auston and Samuel Vernon Jr., all of Flint; daughter, Renee Auston (Falando) of Cordova, TN; brother, Aaron Collins (Theresa) of Des Plaines, IL; sisters, Reola Collins Banks and Josephine Kinnard (Talmus) of Memphis, TN, Martha Jean Houston (Sylvester) of Romeoville, IL and Barbara Ann Collins of Bolingbrook, IL; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends. Geneva was preceded in death were her parents, Louis Auston Jr. and Essie Lee Collins. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hallwood Davita staff, and Hurley Medical Center staff for excellent service and care provided to Mrs. Vernon in her time of need.
