SIMMONS, Ms. Geneva "Genie" - Age 67 passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Ascension-Genesys. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Eliezer Church of the Apostolc Faith, 523 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Bishop Raymond Dunlap, Host Pastor, Pastor Matthew Jackson, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Saturday. Ms. Simmons will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM -6:00 PM Friday. Ms. Geneva “Genie” Simmons was born September 3, 1952 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the daughter of Elder Ernest Sr. and Carnell Simmons. Geneva graduated from E.E. Smith Sr. High School, “Class of 1971” and Mott Community College where she obtained her Associate Degree in Culinary Arts. She also obtained a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from Schoolcraft College. Genie loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was involved in her church and community throughout her life. Genie was a member of Eliezer Church of the Apostolic Faith until moving to Redford, MI. She was an active member of Solomon’s Cathedral where she was a member of the Church Choir, Women’s Ministry, she was the Drama Ministry Leader, part of the Hospitality Ministry, Media & Photo Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Warrior and weekly attendee of Bible Class and Sunday School. Genie loved to visit Refuge Temple when visiting her children. She also was on the Black History Committee at V-8 Engine and other functions while residing in Flint, Michigan. She wrote a jingle for General Motors as well. Genie was not only a singer but wrote songs, poetry and plays. She was a proud author, publishing “A Book of Poems” and a novel called “Past Acquaintance”. Genie had an eye for photography and loved taking photos. She has written songs and poetry for others. Genie had several albums from “God Still Is” to “It’s In The Lord.” Genie was also the chapeling of the Multi Family Group and a retiree of General Motors Corporation in Romulus, MI. Ms. Geneva “Genie” Simmons leaves to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Levi Tyler and Gregory (Kanisha) Tyler; 2 daughters, Roslyn Tyler-Boyce and Jennifer Tyler-Prophit; god-daughter, Latrice Lucas; god-son, Tori Mosley, all of Flint; sisters, Sadie (Collin) Small and Juanita (Dillard) Meares; brothers, Ernest Simmons Jr., Thomas (Pamela) Simmons and Wilbert Simmons, all of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Giana Rose, Geniyha Green, Gregory Tyler II, Cyrie Tyler, Pierre Tyler, JaKiera Hawkins, Malik Manuel, Shance’ Tyler, La’Shelle Tyler, Tyleah Tyler, Tamya Tyler, Levi Tyler III, Angelina Parrilla, Tellyon Williams, Airiyonna Prophit, Amazyn Prophit and Jericho Smith; great-grandchildren, Messiah Tyler, Mylen Manuel and Mi’elle Manuel; god-granddaughter, Chanell Barnett; god-great-granddaughter, Karimah Hasan; grand dog, Prince Tyler; uncle, Charlie (Jacquline) Douglas of Washington, DC; special cousins, Aunt Lousie Lennon, Rachel Ellis, Louida Eller, Jackie Cooper of Maryland and Sharon Lisberg of California; a host of family through the multi family group; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Patricia Campbell, Mr. Robert, Wilma Brown, Freida Coleman, Annie Wooding and Tina Winston; special sons, Vinson Smith and Lonnie Carter. Ms. Simmons was preceded in death by her grandson, Dasper Lee Tyler; parents, Rev. Ernest Simmons Jr. and Carnell Simmons; grandparents, John Bethea, Marcella Cousar, A.T.
