DENT, Mr. Freddy Carl - Age 61, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Dent will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Freddy Carl Dent was born October 25, 1949 in Merigold, Mississippi, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Obie Lee, Sr. and Cora B. (Fonville) Dent. Freddy resided in Flint for more than 50 years. He was a graduate of Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1968”, where he participated in wrestling, track and football. Freddy retired from Delphi, a division of General Motors Corporation after 37 ½ years of service and was a member of UAW Local #651. He loved sports and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Dent was well-loved by his family and friends and his comedy and laughs brought joy to everyone who knew him. He was an artist and sculptor who could draw well. Mr. Freddy Carl Dent leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Drusilla (Green) Dent; daughter, Latisha Edwards; grandchildren, DaTwan, LaQuan, Corey, Torey, Ashton and Allisiah Edwards, all of Flint; 3 sisters, Queen E. (Dent) Shipp, Marian “Shirley” (Dent) Hodge, both of Flint and Shirley Gaines of Robbins, IL; 4 brothers, Willie E. (Louise) Dent of Hilton Head Island, SC, Arthur J. (Deborah) Dent of Flint Twp, Monroe (Montez) Dent and Louis Dent, all of Flint; many nieces including special niece, Alma (Dent) Phillips; many nephews and cousins; mother-in-law, Azile Green; 5 sisters-in-law, Rose (Charles) Holliman, Vena (Darnell) Fant, all of Flint, Consuelo (Connie) Dent of Tucson, AZ, Bernestine (Cager) Dent and Geraldine (Thomas) Dent, all of Flint; 2 brothers-in-law, Al Green of Germany and Alex (Kim) Green of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends including, foster son, Wesley Patton, godson, Marcus Green, special friend, Linne Penn, best friends, Therford Perry, Willie Polk, Terry Holly and Dennis Durant,all of Flint and special friend and godfather, William Tipper. Mr. Dent was preceded in death by his parents, Obie Lee, Sr. and Cora (Fonville) Dent; 4 brothers, Obie Lee Dent, Jr., Robert Lee Dent, Obie Dent III and Leroy Dent; 2 sisters, Evelyn (Dent) Richardson and Evone (Dent) Moore; 6 aunts; 6 uncles; and father-in-law, Alex Green.
