Mr. Freddie Roberts

ROBERTS, Mr. Freddie - Age 72, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, 4418 Industrial Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Latrelle W. Holmes, Sr. officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Roberts will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 pm. - 8 p.m. Tuesday. Mr. Freddie “Turtle Man” Roberts was born October 10, 1942 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Eddie & Cora Roberts. He attended Troop County Public Schools. Freddie moved to Flint in the 1950’s and was employed by a variety of companies as a cement finisher until he retired in 1992. Freddie met Dollene Pea when he would come to her grandfather’s house to cut his hair; they later married on October 26, 1968. While attending a revival at Greater Galilee Baptist Church, Freddie was moved by the Holy Spirit to unite with the church and was baptized October 4, 1992. He served faithfully on the Usher Board and Men’s Choir. Freddie enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and going camping. You could see him riding on his golf cart everyday throughout the neighborhood. He loved his family and the time they would spend together. Freddie was a friendly person who liked to talk and never met a stranger; he will be greatly missed. Mr. Freddie Roberts leaves in God’s care: loving wife of 46 years, Dollene; son-in-law, Michael Moye; 2 grandchildren, Cordell Marshall and Kiara Stubbs; great grand-daughter, Kareronatt Marshall, all of Flint; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Thomas) Hargrove of Raleigh, NC, Viola (Merle) Pratt of Ypsilanti, MI, and Juanita Adams of LaGrange, GA; brother, Ralph (Gwen) Truitt of Ypsilanti, MI; 4 sisters-in-law, Donna Brown, Deborah Roberts, Mary Roberts, all of Flint, and Theresa Pea of Saginaw, MI; 2 brothers-in-law, Dale (Beverly) Brown of Memphis, TN and Horatio (Debra) Brown of Flint; aunt, Janie Hardnett of LaGrange, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including special devoted nephew, John Stewart; great niece, Queen Marie Hudson; devoted cousin, Bobby Roberts; and special friends, Melvin Morgan, Forest Dowell, and the McDonald’s gang. Freddie was preceded in death by parents, Eddie & Cora Roberts; daughters, Sonja Roberts & Sandra Moye; siblings, Eddie Roberts, Melvin Roberts, John Roberts, Willie Roberts, Mary G. Roman, Katie R. Ogletree, Julia Harrison, and Cora Lee Dowdle.
