NICHOLS, Mr. Freddie "Paw Paw" - Age 86, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich, MI. Family hour 10:30AM Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1610 W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor James E. Kennedy officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Tuesday. Mr. Nichols will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Mr. Freddie L. Nichols "Paw Paw" was born December 21, 1921 in Cameron, Texas, the son of Fred and Mable Nichols. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas at an early age, and united with the Pleasant Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Brother Nichols served in the United States Army, and after Honorable Discharge moved to Saginaw, Michigan. He moved to Flint, MI where he retired from Chevrolet Metal Fab. Brother Nichols was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was the administrator of the James E. Kennedy Center. An active community leader, who was involved and a member of the Big Brothers of Greater Flint, The Greater Flint Afro American Hall of Fame (inductee), Northwestern High School Booster Club, and AARP. He leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Dorothy L; 2 sons, Roy V. Nichols (friend, Sandra Brown) of Flint and Gary W. (Florence) Nichols of Missouri City, TX; 7 grandchildren, Mario (Ciara) Nichols of Flint, Tomika Dunbar of Lithonia, GA, DeAndre, RaShaad, Armaad (Tasha) Nichols, all of Flint, Onja and Gary (Deuce) Nichols of Missouri City, TX; 9 great-grandchildren; 7 nieces and nephews, Nathaniel Williams, Mable O'Neal, Edward Williams, Delores (Paul) Spriggs, Brenda (Charles) Green, Azell Williams Jr., Earl Williams, all of Fort Worth, TX; mother-in-law, Leona Morris of Flint; daughter-in-law, Velma Nichols of Flint; great-uncle, John (Eugenia) Morris of Detroit; great-aunt, Edith Morris of Flint; special cousins, Carolyn (Joseph) Allen, Dena (Dorian) Crawford, Paulette (Aprille, Dionne, Chris) Dozier, Yvonne (Andria, Eric) Taylor, Roy D. Freeman and many other great nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mable Nichols; and sister Ella Williams. A very special thanks goes out to the staff of Genesys Hospice in Goodrich.
