Mother Freddie Beavers

BEAVERS, Mother Freddie - age 78, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Second Chance Church, 1950 Burr Blvd. with funeral service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Derrick A. Aldridge, Sr. officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Thursday. Mother Beavers will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mother Freddie Lee Beavers, a devoted daughter, loving mother, and caring grandmother was born on June 2, 1936 in Gurdon, Arkansas, to Francis White and Sam Collins. She was the oldest of four sisters. She met and married Jimmie Beavers; in that union they had eight children, three boys who were the apple of her eye and five daughters who captured her heart. Nothing could separate her from her children. In 1978 Mother Freddie was inspired to return to school to attain her high school diploma. She graduated after the birth of her fifth child Dorothy, and oh how she was thrilled as they walked across the stage to graduate together. Freddie was employed and worked both at Fisher Body and Chevrolet Truck and Bus Plant, divisions of General Motors, in Food Services doing what she does best, “cook!” Mrs. Beavers accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of Foss Avenue Baptist Church for many years. In 2006, she became a member of Second Chance Church under the leadership of Pastor Aldridge and was a beloved Mother of the Church. She loved what the name, Second Chance stood for, because she knew God provides second chances. Freddie loved the Lord, her pastor, and her church family. She loved her family gatherings especially her birthday, where she would always insist on cooking her own feast. She was very particular like that; she did not play when it came to her spread. We will surely miss her cooking, especially those cakes. Sunday mornings were a time for church, but Sunday nights were for The Bobby Jones Gospel Show and you better not touch the T.V. Her special hobbies were; bingo, puzzles, collecting unique refrigerator magnets, shopping, and taking and collecting photographs. Mrs. Freddie Beavers was one sharp lady. She dressed to impress with her glamorous suits, Sunday best hats and we cannot forget her bling, bling; her diamond rings which always kept her smiling. Her beautiful smile will be forever in our heart. We will miss this fabulous lady, devoted mother, loving grandmother and loyal friend to many. She touched the lives of all she knew. Mother Freddie Beavers lived 78 years, the same number of years as her father, her being a daddy’s girl in all. It saddened her that she had to leave her beautiful relationship with her mother behind for it wasn’t her time. Mother Freddie Beavers leaves her precious legacy: her children, James, Arthur, Priscilla, all of Tennessee, Joyce, Dorothy, Mary, Betty (Jeff) Watkins, and Michael Beavers, all of Flint; 23 grandchildren, her five oldest Rosezetta (Gene) Hodge, Marlene (Tommy) Lassiter of Kalamazoo, Marcus Beavers of Tennessee, James (Jennifer) Patrick, and Ayanna (Flake) Hudson, both of Nashville, Tennessee; 40 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; mother, Francis Dixon; sister, Jewel Campbell of St. Louis, MO; brother, Leon Dixon; niece, Pam; nephews, Kenny, Darren and Gary (Vet); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Ruben Middlebrook, Daisy, Betty Gray, Luxie Mae, Rosemary and Court Street Village family, especially Mr. Eddie. Mother Beavers was preceded in death by: her husband, Jimmie Beavers; grandson, Marqurvis; her dearest granddaughter, Tiphanie Mayfield; great-granddaughter, D’asia; father, Sam Collins; her maternal grandmother, Caroline White; 2 sisters, Sarah Craven, and Mae Francis Campbell.
