HAIRSTON, Ms. Freda Renae - age 49, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Dozier Memorial CME Church, 3212 S. Saginaw St. with memorial service commencing at 12 p.m. Pastor Joyce Redfearn officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Ms. Hairston will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014. Mrs. Freda Renae Smith-Hairston was born on January 18, 1965 in Dundee, Mississippi, the daughter of Ms. Ollie Murphy and Mr. Herschel Smith. Freda relocated to Flint, MI in 1967. After graduating from Flint Central High School, Freda attended DeVry University in Columbus, OH and Mott Community College in Flint. Freda accepted Christ at an early age and her giftedness was displayed in the choir at Dozier Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal (C.M.E.) Church. She enjoyed cooking, servicing others and found her niche in various occupations in the food industry. Freda married Stanley Hairston in 1986 and from this union 3 sons were born, Yusef, Yurell and Yulik. Freda will be known and remembered for her infectious smile and upbeat spirit. Mrs. Freda Renae Smith-Hairston leaves to cherish her memory: 3 sons, Yusef, Yurell and Yulik; mother, Ollie Murphy; father Herschel Smith; step-mother, Betty Smith (who loved her unconditionally); sister, Brittany; brothers, Victor (Jeanette), Rick, Maceo and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Hairston; special nephew, Jewelz and special friend, Germain. Mrs. Smith-Hairston was preceded in death by: her brother, Yusef; grandparents, Edna Mathis Murphy, Mary Alice and Clifton Smith; aunts, Tracy, Charlene and Gloria; uncles, Hoyle, William and Maceo; former husband, Stanley Hairston. The Family would like to give a very special thanks to Pastor Reynard Monmouth and the Dozier Memorial C.M.E. Church family and many others.
