Dr. Franklin Dillard Westbrook

WESTBROOK, Dr.. Franklin D. - Age 83, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Henry Ford Hospital Macomb in Clinton Township, MI. Family hour 12:30 PM Saturday, August 5, 2017 at King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, 2220 Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 1:00 PM Min. Anthony Floyd officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Viewing during family hour only. Dr. Franklin D. Westbrook was born December 29, 1933 in Bun, Arkansas, the son of Lorene Oakley and Franklin Ulysses Dillard Westbrook. Dr. Westbrook became a resident of Flint, Michigan after spending most of his life in Maryland. Franklin gave his life to Christ at an early age, and became a Deacon at the Peoples Congregational Church, in Washington D.C. After obtaining his Doctorate in Education, he worked in the field of Counseling and Psychology. He worked for many years as a Counselor and Instructor at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. Even though he was a strong supporter of higher education, he also was a hands on person who, taught himself how to play the piano. Franklin was an inventor, and creator of many things. He honorably served as a Truck Mechanic in the U.S. Army, where he was Honorably Discharged. He was a talented carpenter, who often took on the most difficult tasks, but somehow made them look simple. Dr. Westbrook received many confidential appointments from the Federal Government as a Psychologist. He loved to play chess, play sports, and was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Dr. Westbrook leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Adell Westbrook; 2 daughters, Dawna Westbrook and Marsha Westbrook; son, Franklin Ulysses Dillard Westbrook; son, Bobby Harrison; 24 grandchildren including, Solomon Lacy of Atlanta, GA and Ulysses Lacy of Birmingham, AL; sister, Charlotte Watkins-Jacobs of Little Rock, AR; brother, Gene Watkins of Monticello, AR; niece, Wenetta Westbrook; nephews, Jeffrey Westbrook, Gregory Westbrook, William Barnett, Michael Barnett, Jonas Barnett and Darrell Barnett; 2 sisters-in-law, Margaret Barnett and Lucy Westbrook; a host of other relatives and friends. Dr. Westbrook was preceded in death by his mother, Lorene Oakley- Watkins; father, Franklin Ulysses Dillard Westbrook; step-father, Henry Watkins; brother, Wendell Westbrook; aunts, Estella Westbrook, Ruth Westbrook and Johnnie Westbrook.
